The problem is on a 1.9 TD tipo, j reg.

Both stop warning lights came on the dash the other day, i have had a look at the bulbs and they seem fine. I am not sure which fuse the brake lights work from but they all look fine. All the other lights work fine at the rear.
Any ideas where I can look now ?
I have remoned the switch from the pedal and tested it with a multimeter, the two positions make and break a circuit relating to the middle pin. Where would the 12v be coming from in this circuit ?

Please help, this happened when i was taking the car for its MOT - bad luck eh !

Wasted another fine saturday under the steering wheel having remoced the fuse box to see if anything was visibly suspect.
Nothing obvious tho'
I seem to have trace coming from one wire on the brake pedal switch and no volts from the other two. If i put 12v to the connection then the stop warning lights go out, but the lights still dont work.
Any ideas?

Dave,
I am based in SW london but to be honest i dont think i would know where to start with a diagnosis tool unless it was very simple to use. Thanks anyway.

I have pulled the switch out and tested it, 'seems' ok, although i would be more confident if i knew what i were looking for. The plug and loom is where i would like to concentrate, one wire gives trace +12v and the other two do not show anything. I am not sure hat i am looking for though so any wisdeom is appreciated.

Thanks for responses so far.

HAve you looked where the boot is?

when you open the boot on the top left corner of the boot in between the boot and rest of the car there should be a rubber hose, in there there are wires which somtimes in my experience might have not been rewired proper if you have had your boot replaced for any reason or maybe general wear and tear.

check there and if some wires are exposed or cut just use insulating tape n tape them up.
