Hello,
I have a '91 1.4ie and I'm about to change my brakes, and I though of doing also an upgrade. What would you suggest?
Thanks

Yours is a Mk1 Tipo with (presumably) 13" wheels.

As standard the Mk2 1.4 and 1.6 Tipos had improved front brakes, you could go down this route (still OK with 13" wheels). Or you could go with the disks and calipers etc from the bigger engined cars like the 1.8 or 1.9TD (if you've got 14" wheels), stick with the standard drums at the rear (just clean them and adjust them).

I think the brakes of Tipos are basically the same as for the later Bravos and Bravas... the 1.2/1.4/1.6 were OK, and the bigger engined versions had bigger front disks etc and sometimes even rear disks.

Don't upgrade too much though... the Tipo will lock up its front end quite happily with standard brakes....

Hello,
thanks for the reply.
I have 14" wheels. I will look for brakes from 1.8. Do I have to ask specifically from Mk2 or do newer model brakes fit also?

I am quite happy with the stopping power from the brakes, the problem is the duration..

Thanks,
Alex

Re: Brake ugprade 1.9

I have a tipo 1.9 Td (1991)

My front disk are old so I consider too an upgrade
I was considering buying some vented disc, but I have to change also the calipers, since the thickness is not the same? a suggestion for the pair disc - calipper?

or buy some new discs solid?
the pads dimension will be the same?

Any suggestion? an online store where I should buy?

Ps. I have to look at my wheel dimensions...

and to be more complicated situation, my car is not equipped with ABS...

how I could upgrade? It is complicated?

thanks
