Hello all,

Thinking of replacing the engine mounts on my Tipo, they are well and truely shot. Not sure whether to get the Haynes out and go for it, as they are only 15-20 quid on shop4parts, and looks an easy enough job. Have any of you replaced engine mounts either on a Tipo or another car before? I dont really have specialist tools either - not that you need them for a Fiat! :D

Just looked up engine mountings in the haynes, although mines not a tipo, it doesn't look like a particularly difficult job, with no special tools involved. If you're handy with a torquewrench, and have a hydraulic jack and some axel stands, should be able to get it done in a few hours at the most.

Always looks easy from the haynes though, and when you come to do something, all the bolts have rusted and stuck them selves together!

Probably best to wait until it starts to get warmer and lighter though if you're planning on doing it outside. And do they really need doing? Often its not worth the hassle of doing a job that really doesn't need doing...

the mountings are not too difficult to change, the one at the timing belt is straight forward support the engine (Carefull not to push up the sump as the oil pickup is very close to the bottom and i broke one when the sump hit the road after a bit of a jump) then you can remove the bolts and change the mounting. The gear box one: support the gear box take out the bolts from the gearbox(you will need to remove the plastic shield) then drop the mount. to remove the center one support the engine (it might to tilt forward) take the bolt out of the mounting if you cant drop the engine at this stage you will need to remove the steel bracket to drop the mounting. And before someone else says it dont take them all out together
