I have a Fiat Tipo 1.9TD K-reg. The water level has been decreasing rapidly, I have to refill everyday before I make my 1 hour journey. I have looked under the car and found that there was water dripping from the point closes to the front right tyre. I assumed this was not because of a leaking radiator. So I took it to a garage two days ago and he told me that I needed the water pump replaced.
First of all, I can't afford a new water pump. But I found that Henry Taroni(CAR & COMMERCIAL VEHICLE DISMANTLERS) has a spare water pump for a normal Fiat Tipo and not a TD. Would anyone here know if the water pump for a normal Fiat Tipo would be suitable for a Fiat Tipo 1.9TD? Please advice.

How does a worn water pump make you loose coolant rapidly?[?] I would look under the oil filler cap for white stuff, and look for white smoke out the exhaust as i would say its a head gasket:D

if you have cappochino in oil cap as above head gasket buggered,a water pump from taronies is probably ok as it might be off my old tipo!,got one with powered steering now, older diesel tipo's pumps same as petrol if you dont have power steering.ps:buy a Haynes manual urgent. Kev,Birmingham.

hi guys thanks for the advice. Just got a quote for my car and the garage said it is £500 pounds... bloody hell.. I can't afford that. AND yes the head gasket and pump is in need of replacing. Although I still drive the car but not without filling up the water everytime i go.

My next question is can I do with just replacing the pump and try to live with the head gasket gone?

Yup i see cappucino.. hahahah and what will that mean to the car being continuously driven? another thing the tipo is a power steering... so from what u say a petrol tipo pump might not fit into the TD. another thing. Haynes manual for Fiat Tipo TD does not exist.. according to Haynes.

My latest thoughts on this car of mine are,
1)The cost of fixing it is astronomical right?
2)what are the dangers of me driving this car with the head gasket buggered? If there is no danger then I would not replace it and just drive the car until it gives up.

Please advice.

Spambam, take your tipo down M6 Junction7 at 3am in morning at 50+mph for about 10 miles(any direction) and see how far you get before you hear loud bang and freewheel onto hard shoulder, seriously.DON'T DRIVE IT FAR YOUR ENGINE CEASE UP.You have several options,
1,buy a new car(for £500).
2,try another garage,
3,buy another tipo and canibalize the parts.
4,pay yor garage £500.
As i don't belive you have much machanical aptitude option 1 is a good idea ! Kev,Birmingham.[xx(]
