Hi all,

Have just found that the sidelights and dipped beam on both headlights are not working (having been fine this am) - but main beam works fine on both.

Have checked fuses, bulbs and relays and all seem good.

All rear lights work fine and I still get the green light on the instrument panel and stalk illumination lights when the swithch is turned which suggests to me its probably not a problem with the stalk itself...

Any ideas as to what could cause this failure? I'm rather at a loss to explain it.

Any help gratefully received.

JAn addendum.

I just found and started reading the haynes manual.

I can see from the wiring diagrams there is a separate DIM-DIP fuse, relay and resistor somewhere and I guess these are all potential candidates. ( I only checked the dipped and main beam relays on the main fusebox)

Can anyone tell me where to find these, what they look like and how to test them?

Thanks again

Now am really confused - looking at the Porter manual wiring diagrams it seems that a 1994 1.4ieS doesn't have the dim dip system installed...

Does anyone have a 1994 car that can tell me if its got it or not? Having removed most of the lower dashboard I cant find it if its in the cabin... and its not obvious in the engine bay either.

So, if its not the DIM-DIP system I'm back to square one. Any ideas anyone?

Does anyone have a working spare light/indicator stalk they are willing to sell so I can at least test that?

Thanks again in advance

i've been meaning to have a look at my manual and try and work out where your problem would be. it sounds like at a guess that either the fuse for dipped headlights has blown (on circuit board, though you've said you've checked.) or possibly a fault in the wiring. your best bet might be to try and see if a current is getting through from the circuit board.
try getting a 12V bulb and earth it on the car and connect it to the corresponding wire for the dipped beam. as it comes off the circuit board. this should help eliminate anything before or after.

Finally had time to have a look in daylight yesterday. Managed to get all the lamps going again - guess it must have been just a loose connection/cabling issue as all I did was drop out the fusebox, then pull out and reconnect all the multiplugs.

In case anyone is interested, by observation I can confirm that there IS a DIM-DIP system in place on a 1994 1.4ieS - despite what the Porter manual says.

However, I am still none the wiser as to where the fuse and relay for it are located....

hi mate, i had the exact same problem with mine after it had been stood for a while, the plug for the OSF headlamp had corroded and as the lights are connected in series it sent the rest of the lights out with it, after buying a new plug from scrappy for 20 p lol its all fine and dandy
