How reliable has your Tipo been?

I bought my 1.4 petrol estate Tipo when it was a year old with just under 6k on the clock. I have doubled that and had it for 18 months. I have had one Fiat major service, which needed nothing other than the service.

Nothing has gone wrong. I have had zero problems.

2 years and around 14k miles
Needed a pair of rear shocks and then just general service and wear parts 2 tyres and discs and pads all around
Didn't need doing yet but changed them all when the front pads were worn and the rear discst looks quite rusty

Re: How reliable has your Tipo been?

Bought brand new and at 3 months old steering rack broke! Replaced under warranty after main dealer initially couldn’t find anything wrong. Eventually found fault and then told not to be driven so had courtesy car for 3 week wait for rack from Italy. Had no faults since then fingers crossed.

Re: How reliable has your Tipo been?

My Tipo 1.6 Diesel has had its MOT and two dealer services, over 15,000 miles

The only thing that has gone wrong is that the areal base had to be replaced when the DAB stopped working.

I've had 4 Abarths, 2 Alfas and this is my second FIAT, no real problems at all, this "Fix It Again Tony" thing is really old school and perpetrated by the pub "experts" British press and people like Clarkson who think we should all buy German cars and Italian (OK, its designed and built in Turkey) cars are unreliable.

German cars are not that reliable and Italian cars more reliable than people perceive.

Re: How reliable has your Tipo been?

I had a BMW prior to buying the Tipo, in 18 months the BMW spent more time in the garage than it did on my drive, I have 7300 of repair receipts from that car, all electronic and sensor failures. I ditched it and bought the Tipo, it'll be a year since purchasing on 1st August and I have only had two issues with it, the electric window regulator broke, cost 175 to replace and the battery failed and replacement cost 88. This is incredibly reliable and cheap compared to my previous Alfas and BMWs. No complaints here.

Re: How reliable has your Tipo been?

My Tipo has not had any issues that affect driving the car. I've had minor problems with the DAB aerial, rear wash wipe disconnection and the battery level monitor not working. All of these were sorted under the warranty. Nothing serious. At the end of the day, the main thing you want in a car is the ability to drive it safely and for it to perform as expected and none of these faults stopped me from being able to do so.

Re: How reliable has your Tipo been?

Tipo 1.4 T-Jet S-Design, bought brand new in September 2018. Had two services, third about to be booked. It's only on 15,000 miles (in part due to lockdown restrictions) but had very little trouble with it.

*Drivers door card slightly rattly - tightened up at 12 months old (no charge)
*DAB aerial base suffered water ingress, causing DAB signal to drop out after heavy rain - fault code stored, so replaced under warranty at 2 years
*Battery failed - was recharged by dealer once but failed again - failed dealer battery test so replaced under warranty at 2.5 years
*Rear window washer stopped working - to be investigated at 3rd service

DAB aerial base, batteries and window washer problems all seem to feature on various Fiat Group cars (batteries on lots of other makes of car too) so I certainly don't feel too hard done-by. Other than the battery, which can happen on any car, I've had nothing to stop the Tipo getting me where I need to go.

Re: How reliable has your Tipo been?

The Tipo is my 10th car. The most reliable up till now (out of a Vauxhall, a Jaguar, two Hondas and three Volvos) was my 1995 Punto. My 1989 Tipo was also reliable, the problems I experienced were with the dealer. Car Wow had Fiat at 6th out of 29 makes for reliability -

Re: How reliable has your Tipo been?

Flywheel (and clutch) replaced under warranty for slipping at motorway speeds (fine all the rest of the time) rear shocks needed at 2nd MoT at 36k miles but it’s always started and it’s always got me back home and nothing else other than routine servicing.

Its nice to see Fiat rank well in one of these surveys. They're better cars than most people think.

Re: How reliable has your Tipo been?

1.3 diesel wagon. Slowish but economical.

Former taxi at 87k.
Nice car for the money. Springs break. Window regulator failed. Back brakes foul up and tend to seize. Despite that I think it is a middling quality car at a cheap price. Similar to my past experience of Brava, Bravo and Marea. Dealers have no parts and lack any expertise
