My Tipo broke down yesterday, called the RAC and it was the battery.

The car gave me no indication or warning that this was going to happen, the battery just fell off the cliff.

However, the newly installed battery only shows 50% on the dashboard, the car has been run for two days but the battery charge is not full. I put my tester on the battery and it is as it should be on the meter but car sys different, any ideas?

I think the battery in the Tipo will need coding to the car so the smart battery monitor knows the level of charge it has and can monitor it.

How did the battery fail..?

Non.start or tail off and engine cut ??

Is it actually charging properly..

My first tipo was dead in the garage and was 2 years old, I had the battery replaced under warranty and the dealer said it was a regular occurrence, as the stop and go was constantly draining it, changed back to the tipo diesel and written on the battery was heavy duty for stop and go, says it all cheap batteries are not up to it

All the new batteries seem to do that these days. One minute fine next completely flat. Had a 500x did the same. I wouldn’t take too much notice of the car gauge it’s only an approximate reading . If the stop/start works ok then the battery is charged enough. It only works when battery is charged enough.

Hi

Thanks guys. The battery is fully charged and tested. The car was going silly for a while after refitting the new battery, I put my OBD reader on and there were 38 faults, I cleared them and all is well now, the battery charge gauge still shows 50% though. The battery supplied is supposed to be the correct one but I don't think it is, it's 480A 60AH which I do not believe is sufficient for S/S, however, it came with a 3 year warranty so if it fails they will be replacing it.

60ah what engine do you have probably about right for a petrol sounds low for a diesel however

Just had a look my 1.4 has a 50ah standard battery so it's possible that's is the correct one if a little under powered

Edit just but a reg in for a 1.6 mjet and they are all coming up around 70ah so probably incorrect battery

Battery on my 2017 Tipo Lounge 1.6 diesel failed recently after using radio while stopped (only for 10 - 15 minutes), even though stop/start was operating normally while running. RAC came out and test showed battery 'should be replaced'. I thought that if stop/start was operating it meant that the battery was healthy, but be warned!

If I had bought a battery from the RAC (they had one on the van) it would have cost £240 (!) I recommend Tayna Batteries online £100.97 - coreect battery for 1.6 diesel stop/start Tipo - delivered Tuesday, ordered 16:30 on Sunday.

Does this mainly affect diesel engine Tipos?

I can't see that anyone is affected with a petrol engine.

Because of less driving through the pandemic, I've turned off my start/stop function. The great thing is the Tipo remembers this setting when you switch the car off for next time.

I had a tipo 1.4 multijet petrol it was only 2 years old had to ring fiat breakdown and they said the battery was knackered, it also blew the city button and the cruise control i had all replaced under warranty, the garage told me it was a regular occurance, shortly after they threw the towel in and stopped selling fiat!I now have a diesel ant the battery says suitable for stop and go

I highly doubt a failed battery "blew the cruise control and power steering"

Stoped them from working until error codes where cleared maybe

thats what i thought but they told me the switches were replaced under warranty but i didnt ask them to return the parts Hmmmm!!!!

thats what i thought however they assured me the switches were changed but i didnt ask for the faulty parts back should have done
