hi guys,

following on from the advice given by your fine selves on my previous posts I have decided that i should firstly get an oil change, filter and fuel filter done on the car, to try to sort out the sluggishness of the perfromance

i wanted to source a good quality oil. anyone know how much i would need in terms of litres for a complete oil change and filter change?

can you recommend a good oil?

anyone know which oil type is best?

i also wanted to try to source proper fiat fuel and oil filters if poss. do you think this is necessary or not?

many, many thanks

john

If you can't get genuine manufacturer's labeled filters easily - bearing in mind the vehicle manufacturers almost certainly won't have made what's in the carton? - My friend's independent factoring business (tragically now closed) supplied me with Mahle branded filters for many years and I've never had even the slightest problem with them. Useful to know also that Fuchs Oil is, according to a press release I read some time ago, now the supplier of the Quantum range of alternative oils to TPS (VW/AUDI dedicated factors). I've used Fuchs for many years and again never had even a hint of a problem relating to lubrication.

My present factor has recently been taken over by the enormous NAPA organisation and most commonly supplies either Bosch, Mahle, or NAPA filters. I haven't tried the NAPA ones yet but my boy's Punto has a Bosch one in it just now and I've another sitting in my new parts container waiting to go on the Panda. I'll probably ask him if he can supply a Mahle for the Ibiza, but really only because I have so much confidence in Mahle quality and the oil in the wee 3 cyl turbo petrol engine in it needs as much help as it can get! Fuchs Titan GT1 5W-40 going in the Panda and Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro C3 5W-30 going in the Ibiza very soon now.

If you're ever really stuck and unsure what to do - anyone - buy parts from a local large trade parts factoring business, most will sell to the general public, especially if you turn up in your nice dirty oil stained boilersuit! The likelyhood of being supplied with a dodgy below standard part from an organisation supplying the local trade and whose reputation and business depends on quality and good pricing is very small indeed. Also, if you get it home and find it doesn't fit returning it for the correct part is as simple as can be.
