I recently got a new Tipo 1.4 easy after having had a Stilo 1.4 for the last 13 years. I expected the basic specs to be pretty similar but was surprised to find that the rear brakes on the Tipo are drums. All Stilos had discs at the back and in all honesty they were a pain in the neck - calipers sticking and poor handbrake performance were the main problems. I think the move to drums is welcome as the hand brake works much better and they are unlikely to need as much maintenance as discs. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Did Fiat switch to drums on cost grounds or because they recognized that rear discs gave too many problems in use?
