Engine light on - diagnostic showed a misfire

I had the engine light come on when driving on the motorway just over a week ago. It also disconnected the stop/start, and I later noticed the cruise control wouldn't work.

So I took it in the garage on Friday, and the diagnostic showed it had a misfire in cylinder 3. But it's been driving fine. The mechanic cleared the codes, and everything worked again.

But today, the light came on again. I suspect it'll be the same fault.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I've only done 16k miles, and it's a 17 plate 1.2 T-jet.

Re: Engine light on - diagnostic showed a misfire

If it showing as cylinder 3 again check the spark plugs and swap the coil pack from cylinder 3 to another cylinder and clear the code if the fault moves to another cylinder you know the coil is faulty

Although if a 17 plate is it still under warranty depending on when it was made?

Re: Engine light on - diagnostic showed a misfire

I'm going to take it into the dealers on Friday and get it checked. If it's the same fault, they can check the electrics. It's got a couple months of Warranty left, so hopefully it can get fixed under that. I'll pay for spark plugs, but anything else is on them.

As long as the fault is found within the time they have to fix it. I had an issue weeks before 3yr warranty ran out. It was fixed a few weeks after warranty had expired.

Re: Engine light on - diagnostic showed a misfire

Was there any messages stating the issue such as emissions etc. Mine had similar Disconnections due to issues with the lambda sensors.

Did it knock off the cruise?

Or just engine related issues??

They replaced both the lambda sensors under warranty. The engine management turns off some of the features when there's an issue such as this.

Oh..ok so it was your car I was thinking of..

Cruise is odd.. because it relies on so many inputs : clutch and brake pedal switches..which I would call
Body rather than Engine..

Anyway..sounds like its fixed..and relatively cheaply

Re: Engine light on - diagnostic showed a misfire

I had misfire on my TIPO 1.4 16v once as well - very cold start, while CEL light already on due to P0420 DTC.

Currently being solved by dealership, they changed the spark plugs - misfire did not show up again but P0420 (cat efficiency) is reoccurring every 50-60 km driven.

Cat is clean from the inside...
They just tried to clean both lambdas instead of replacing them - crucial mistake from my point of view. I'm really getting tired of this

Re: Engine light on - diagnostic showed a misfire

I finally had it into the garage to have it checked. They said it's the lambda sensor, so they're going to order one and get it back in to replace it. I didn't know there was more than one though, but the report shows they tested one and it had failed.

Re: Engine light on - diagnostic showed a misfire

Be aware, that labdas are better to be replaced in pairs. In my case it ended with ECU replacement. Everyting else was replaced/checked and considered OK, therefore ECU is showing a fault while there is none
Thanks messyhead thanked for this post

Re: Engine light on - diagnostic showed a misfire

Does anyone know if the lambdas are replaced under warranty?

The main dealer is messing me about, and don't return calls, so if it's not a warranty job, I'll just take it to my local reliable garage.
