Glad they were good enough that you decided to use them for the third service. Excellent. Not used them personally but heard good things about them and they've been around since at least the MK1 Punto days, so mid-90's - a long time in today's motoring World.

They'll probably get busier given the thinning out of the dealer network in that part of the country - several Fiat dealers around Greater Manchester, Cheshire & Lancashire (including Richard Cort Bury, Lookers Stockport, Warrington Motors and Blackburn Motor Park) have all gone, and I think Swansway Fiat in Chester might only be aftersales now too, so hopefully this will provide opportunity for these smaller garages.

Even the 500 which is Fiat's 'flagship' so to speak, only had one remote key when my Parents bought a TwinAir Lounge new in 2012. The only Fiat I've had which had 2 remotes was my 2004 Stilo - not sure if that's because they tried to go up against VW for quality on the Stilo (soft touch dashboard, bonnet on hydraulic struts etc) or whether the original owner paid extra for a second remote key. But none of my other Fiat's have had 2 remotes.

Alfa's have two remotes though - both my MiTo and Giulietta did.

Yep and my earlier Punto had two as well. When I bought my 500X I asked why I only had one remote and was told if you want two it would be an extra charge.

Re: Tipo buying advice please

They maybe went through a phase of providing two remotes on some models, before changing back to only one remote. Certainly the Tipo only has one anyway. Bit penny-pinching, but my spare always sits unused in a drawer somewhere anyway, so I suppose I can see their point.

The only time I used the second remote was when the battery went flat. I once dropped my 500X remote down the toilet and panicked after drying it out wondering if it would work? Not having a second remote luckily it did.......

Oops! Must admit i've dropped the Tipo remote in the sink, but it still works. On my Punto I actually preferred the non remote key because the button on the remote one protruded a bit and would press in my pocket on occasion, unlocking the car, which wasn't ideal. So i tended to use the 'spare' key on the Punto.

Thinking about the Stilo, it actually only had one remote too - they both had the key that flicked out by pressing a button (unlike other Fiat 2nd keys that are just basic keys) but it did without the remote buttons of the main key.

Re: Tipo buying advice please

In my 30+ fiats...spanning 1984 to 2013

The mareas were the only cars with 2 remotes.. circa 1999 blue keys :gen2
(Actually..it was ex.company fleet: so may have been an option taken)

Older cars had 2 standard keys..and a dinky 'service'key

Would work ignition and passenger doors.. but not the boot

Re: Tipo buying advice please

Ok, first impressions after a week of driving the Tipo....

Gear change and steering my maligned by the motoring press are fie, I'd go as far as to say the gearbox feels very positive and I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

The interior plastics are also fine, the car feels tight and is rattle and squeak free.

The T jet engine is a gem, very quiet, averaging around 40mpg with brisk performance. I may look to improve this with a mild remap, 150-165 bhp seems common place and improves torque.

I wont be doing anything with the performance though until Ive tackled the cars biggest bugbear which is the ride. Around town its fine but the car quickly becomes unsettled on even the slightest of uneven surfaces having a feeling of shimming around, it never feels as planted as my old Bravo 150 sport.

I'm going to look what, if any upgrades are available for the shockers and take it from there.

All in all though I think its a great car and with some small tweeks it will become a absolute cracker

Re: Tipo buying advice please

Thx 4 your replies re the keys. Unlike the Tipo's my 2006 Croma 2.4 Prestigio and 2003 Stilo 1.9JTD Dynamic both have 2 remote keys. I will have to sell the Croma if I buy my sons Tipo, otherwise I will have 4 cars. I plan to give my other son the Stilo in March once he has 2 years no claims bonus.

Re: Tipo buying advice please

I have been pleasantly surprised by only 95hp. The engine is quiet and I think it is taking its times accelerating, but then I look at the speedo and realise I am doing 40, not 30.
