Evening,

After a string if Fiats - Uno, Tempra, Brava and Punto, I took a Ford break but am pleased to be back with a Fiat. However, after only 30 days of owning this car (which I've really been enjoying) the battery seems to have packed up.

The AA Patrol guy ran some tests and thought that it needed replacing after putting it on charge.

I'm thinking of doing this myself having done it previously on other - albeit less technically advanced - cars.

Is this a job I can do myself (thinking about electronic engine / battery management systems) or should it really go into a garage?

Any advice appreciated...

Cheers

I had issues with battery failure on my 500x . Several times I disconnected it to charge in my shed. No issues whatsoever ... Three leads to disconnect. Lost radio settings and clock that’s all. Turned out had a faulty cell and was replaced under warranty.

Apologies, I didn't get around to updating this.

Basically, I took the easy option out and paid the AA to fit a new battery (rather than do it myself) which they did and once connected - everything came alive ok.

it's obviously one of the batteries suitable for 'stop start' engine systems but as I've tended to have that turned off - does anyone know if this is detrimental to the battery?

Opposite if anything it will increase the life span of the battery as it not allways draining to restart the car

Stop start will save some money. Turn off is for situations like heavy traffic. The car is designed ot take the higher levels of starting so my view is its best to let it do its job. After a while I stopped noticing my system. It does sorth things out when I stall ... Good for old people.
