Car is nearly 3 months old and has done 1200 mile and I noticed the oil level has dropped a bit on the dipstick. Topped back up to upper level on dipstick. I’m assuming due to new engine bedding in?

Mine is a 1.4 T-Jet (same as yours I think?) and needed 500ml at 3000 miles. It's now on 3800 so I'll check it again at 4000. Hopefully it won't have used much more in that time - I won't be happy at buying a new car and having to check the oil every 1000 miles. I've barely used a litre of oil between services in my last 5 Italian cars combined!

I too had to top mine up by around half a litre at around the 3000 mile mark as it was halfway between minimum and maximum on the dipstick. I've checked it again today and its dropped a little again so I wouldn't be surprised if it works out at around a litre in 6000 miles.

Think I will pick up a spare bottle of oil when it goes in for its first service. Other than that its been faultless.

Yep never needed any on my previous 500x or a Panda

Hi have just completed 3000m in my 4 month old 1.4 (95) tipo and have had to add 500ml oil. Will have to keep chexking to see if it is using oil. Had no problems with previous fiat models

The Tipo engines are tried and tested units and in the case of the 1.4 16v 95 FIRE engine & 1.4 120 T-Jet mentioned on this thread, I don't recall people previously reporting oil consumption on other models with these engines. The Fiat 500L and Alfa MiTo have sold in decent numbers with these engines (95bhp in the 500L and both engines in the MiTo) & are well regarded.

The only thing I can think of is they've been tweaked slightly for the Tipo or to meet new emissions regulations, or the oil grade specified for the Tipo is different to that of the other older models that used these engines. I used Selenia K Pure Energy in my T-Jet as specified but I don't think that oil was even around when the MiTo launched with these engines in 2009.

I've owned 2 t-jet engined cars over 11 years and never topped up the oil yet. My latest being a 67 plate Tipo has had no issues yet.
