General Tipo saloon?

General Tipo saloon?

Did Fiat decide to import the saloon (RHD) yet?

If not, why not? :D

now let me see..., :chin:

FIAT's with a boot in the uk: last 30 years -

Regata , Tempra, Marea,
what HUGE sellers they were (not)

the UK is NOT a market for "boots",
look at the Focus as a prime example..

in the words of the band James;

"Oh Sedan
Oh Sedan
Oh Sedan
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy" :D

Yes I guess so..

The Skoda Rapido is the nearest thing to the beast I'm after but if I buys a VW I would have to buy all new tools etc. since they'll be all different sizes.. :D

And I don't like their weirdness (normality?) compared to FCA..:)

But in these days of computerized production lines, it'd be a different kettle of anchovies than in the old days where a line could only make one distinct model. If Turkey can make RHD hatch fronts and LHD saloon rears... it shouldn't be too tricksy to make a RHD saloon.

On the other hand I could buy a LHD saloon from where it's cheapest (Denmark?) and a RHD hatch and swap the essential bits over... but that would get quite expensive (try selling the "saloon" that is now rebodied as a hatchback.. :D ) and the Younger Mrs S. already thinks I'm barking mad.. :D

Ahem.....

Audi A4/A5/A6/A7/A8
BMW 3/5/7 Series
VW Passat
Mercedes C Class
Jaguar X-Type

Not to mention the Alfa 156/159

Not popular in the UK? ;):p

Saw a good number of Tipos in Italy on holiday a couple of months back; mainly saloons and hatches, with one solitary SW bringing up the rear.

Thought the saloon looked a bit ungainly in photos but totally changed my mind seeing them for real out on the road. Very elegant styling and better looking than the hatch to me where it all goes a little bit wrong at the back.
(Mind you having said that I drive a 500L so probably should keep my mouth shut when it comes to styling issues).

I'd like to see the saloon available for sale in the UK but somehow doubt it will happen.

Funny how people will pay £££ for saloons higher up the price-range, but not lower down. Is it all down to fleet sales?

I saw my first A3 saloon today - I hadn't even realised they are available. But maybe I've just not been spotting them because (a) all Audi saloons look the same, just slightly smaller/bigger than the rest, and (b) all Audis look the same in your rear-view mirror when they are 6 feet from your bumper.

Tipo saloon is being sold in Ireland so an rhd tipo saloon is possible for someone in the UK if they were really pushed!

Is the Gaelic Tipo saloon a RHD then? Sounds unusual for Fiat to make such a niche of a niche car. They'll sell 30 a year or something, in RHD.

I had a look at Fiat's Irish website... and I'm sure Fiat really doesn't want me to have one.

Tipo hatch spec's are essentially the same as UK... but the saloon has the same diesel engines line-up as the UK but crucially only the ETorq 1.6 automatic and the 95bhp petrol..

Aaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!! :D

Hmmm....

Now Hyundai has decided that that there is "no market" for a saloon shaped motor this size, joining SEAT (Toledo - https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/seat/toledo) and Mazda (3 Fastback https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/our-cars/mazda-3-fastback-long-term-test-review-final-report ):

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-revie...s/hyundai-i30-fastback-premium-2018-uk-review

The exterior doesn't look quite as sharp as the Tipo (probably because Tipo is a saloon and the Hyundai is a tweaked Hatch)... but the interior bears more than a passing resemblance to Tipo.. :)

Credit to them for importing it and having a go... but it's a pity that they think it's worth over £20k (yes!) .. or 30% more than a Tipo saloon would cost. Fiat could clean up this sector.. :(
