during the Magpie swooping time (spring) we get attacks like this round our area, I doubt that they are as severe tho..

An idea for defending yourself from swooping maggies is to carry a tennis racquet with you, cos the bird will pull out at the last second and fly over your head. At that instant, you whip up the racquet above your head, and depending on how fast the particular bird's reaction is depends on the outcome, but either way, they're a little more reluctant to swoop after that
