General Would this work!?

I Have a 2001 mk2 punto which has a remote central locking system alarm on it. It is a separate fob an is not a button on the key to lock/unlock like other cars. I have noticed that the newer puntos have the flip up key and button on them. Would it work if I got an ignition barrel and key from scrapyard of the newer punto that is out now and put it onto mine and took the plipper to a key cutters who program's car keys so my remote central locking worked? Thanks
