Worrying 'cracking' noise

Hi All,

When driving my Bravo (Mk2 115), there is an occasional sharp 'crack' from the rear passenger side. The car has been up on ramps and I could not see anything obvious and I have checked the wheel studs to make sure they were tight. The handling does not seem affected and the noise dos not appear to be related to suspension movement, i.e. it does not happen when going over speedbumps etc.

Any ideas? I was told a couple of MOTs ago that rear wheel bearing was possibly on its way out but this hasn't been raised in any subsequent MOT.

Regards

Conrad

did u have the wheels off before this happened?

Hi there, if you jack the car up and put it on stands then take a firm grip at 12 and 6 on the effected wheel push at 12 and pull at 6 and vise versa, see if there is any movement even the slightest could mean the bearing is on its way out...

Give that ago and see what happens

The rear wheels have not been off for at least 10 months, noise is recent.

Noise

Sorry, but bearings dont crack, they rumble !
Obvious checks, sugguested already, 12 - 6 wheel movement
.

Sounds really daft, but have you considered your exhaust mounts, my stainless used to band on the heatsheild before fittin new bracket with PowerFlex bushes.

Ckeck internal shock mounts too (inside boot)

Are you on standard suspension? How many miles, Wheels ?
