Anyone been watching it? It seems this year it's been "Americanised" and theres also a load more Yanks in there due to new qualification rules.

Still, it's been great so far and I actually know who won it, shame none of the Brits got in the final through it was certainly very close last night.

The amount of weight these guys can shift is mind boggling and it's good to see that the old "fat guy" physique of the early years seems to be changing to more a "bodybuidler" style shape, Mariusz wouldn't look out of place on the Mr. Olympia stage. Awesome.

I remember seeing Phil Pfister (I think that's how you spell it) with the Hercules Columns (if that's right). He just stood there, and started to give a speech :D Won that event by a mile :)

the final is tonight.
i know what these guys go through. i pumped massive weights for ten yrs. believe me, there were guys at the gym who could lift incredible weights. yet they never went for strongman events. very strange.
all that weight pumping and special diets i left alone a few yrs back due to a lower back spasm that would not go away and was back then complicated to operate on. keyhole surgery was in its infancy. anyway, muscle breaks down, and turns to fatty tissue eventually causing me to have heart surgery which is due after three cancellations in feb.:(

phil has given up totally, and is playing rugby as a pro.:)

Oooo so I haven't missed the final then - yey - I must set the video as I'm off to the gym after wk - that's why I've missed most of them this week gym commitments - is there a female equivalent does anyone know?

There was, it was on TV once, this (fit) little blondie from Norway (I think, she was Scandanavian anyhoo) won. She looked just like a normal lass, probably much to the annoyance of the other chemically enhanced competitors.

Wasn't she married/going out with one of the competing strongmen?

Sheeet yes I remember that, Worlds Strongest Women, was in South Africa or somewhere hot, yeah there was one that did really well came 2nd or something, even tho she still looked like a women, not bulky like the others more strong atheltic tall blong girl exactly who you refer to!

There's been a few bodybuilders have a go at the UKs - Andy "Stumpy" Raynes and Gary Lister spring to mind. I'd like to see current Mr Olympia Ronnie Coleman have a crack at it. That guy lifts phenominal weights for reps, the sort of weight that the strongmen guys are maxing out at.

problem with us brits is we are part time at it. hold a regular job and all that. the scandanavians and all do it full time. so they are training all the time and competing. mind you, plenty of them carry injuries throughout the yr.
noticed this yrs final is missing some regular faces. yet the regulars are still competing as per eurosport programmes. the one event i always liked was the viking stone. only one who could do it at any length was marius.
read somewhere he's been found positive for drugs. what the outcome was/is, don't know.:)
