Ok I know nobody cares but I was just so lucky! Have been working on an excel spreadsheet for 3 days now, we're talking formula along the lines of:

=C17-((($D$11*C17^3)-((($B$2*$D$11)+ (0.0820575*450))*C17^2) + ($B$1*C17)-($B$2*$B$1))/((3*$D$11*C17^2)-((2*($B$2*$D$11)+ (0.0820575*450))*C17)+$B$1))

i.e. not much fun! I realised the figure I had used for the gas constant was for pascals, not atmospheres! AHHHHH!!!! Forunately excel has the find/replace function, saved me editing 873 numbers!

WOOOOO!!! Nearly thought I was going to have to start the whole piece of crap again!

You are aware also that you can just type the fomula in one cell and then "fill down" to repeat the fomula in other cells in the column and the fomula will reference the new cells as well.

I have to use Van Der Waals to work out the volume of one mole of gas for different conditions, Pv = RT doesn't work properly, it's just an estimation. Van Der Waals considers other forces etc. Problem is it's a cubic so basically to solve you need a computer. You then use Newton-Raphson floating point iteration to find out the volume. Sadly I have to do the same for Redlich-Kwong (similar to Van Der Waals) sadly it isn't converging, must have an error somewhere :( Interestingly this is the easiest work I have done for 6 weeks!

Yes Neo :) The problem is all my work has to be changed for different colums rather than just different rows. OK i wouldn't have had to edit 900 odd manually, more like 100 numbers, yet that's still a lot!

I only noticed this as when I got my book I was flicking through and though "oh ****! wrong units!"

I remember when I was putting a new computer system in for a company I used to work for and was doing some data entry, very boring. At least you do have some interesting parts, actually so did I, it's just I was doing the boring bits for months at a time and then interesting bits for equal periods.

I wanted data entry work last summer but couldn't get it :( Despite having 55WPM (when most ask for 35 avg)

Isn't that the formula Fiat use to work out your bill?

No, that formula is:

"Think of a very large number. Double it. Double it again. Add £50 just for s**ts and giggles. Enjoy look of astonishment on poor mug's face when he/she sees the bill. Then mention that VAT isn't included."

Glad you have got your units sorted out, bet that's going to be the first, last and only thing you do with equations from now on ;). Glad to hear you are slowly remembering A-level chemistry too Stu, it's been a strain on the old brain the last few days ;).

Well guess what Steve? Went out to the pub quiz! Had a good time :)

You weren't expecting that were you!

Stu: yeah, sorted out REF, tried the whole thing again :)

well done paul...far too many numbers involved in that for my liking!
