Technical Will a 1.6 petrol gearbox fit a 1.8 HLX bravo?

Hi,
My gearbox on my 1996 HLX Bravo is on its last legs, I read in my Haynes manual that the gearbox from the 1.6 Brava/Bravo is the same gearbox. Is this correct? I would appreciate if anyone in the know could tell me.

It is from the same family (C.531.5.) but have different bellhousing.
