If you're planning to rip off part of the exhaust system, wouldn't you put the car on ramps?
The amount of movement required to unbolt exhause sections is substantial - even if it's just a case of undoing a couple of clamps, the interlocking sections can be very difficult to part.

The 'story' also reminds me of the joke about the hubby planning to work under the car so the wife goes out shopping. Upon her return she sees hubby's lower half poking oiut from under the car so decides to be a bit playful. she unbuttons his flies and (this bit is changed dependant on the company) then goes in the house to see hubby making hot drinks.
Meanwhile, their (neighbour, his best mate, her brother :eek:) staggers in having banged his head on the underside of the car due to the shock of (whatever she did after unbuttoning his flies).
