Hi I'm knew to this site so please bare with me. I've got a fiat punto, 1.2 8v 54plate. It's recently started juddering for no reason at all, low gear mainly. In order to stop it I've got to put the accelerator down. I've taken it to a garage n they have had it on their diagnostic machine.came up with speed sensor fault. This has been renewed. It's had an oil filter n oil change, air filter change and knew pas system fitted and spark plugs.still doing it!! I've bin advised to change the fuel filter which will b done Wednesday.the car is now at 104k miles, nothing seems to b wrong when it's bin looked at. It's intermittent, so no pattern at all.Other than that any help please? Thanks Ali

Okay, so I am a noob to car mechanics, but here is my guess.

I have a similar problem - when in the lower gears and I come off the gas, it gets a bit shaky. Feels like it could stall if I don't accelerate again.

I thought perhaps it could be as simple as a dirty throttle body. I've not checked mine yet but it couldn't hurt to see if it needs cleaning.

When my daughter's car experienced similar issues I replaced the coil packs, HT leads and spark plugs and its now cured.

whilst testing I found that if I tried to rev the engine (whilst parked up) and try to keep it a say 2,000 RPM, as soon as it hit this on the rev counter and I took my foot of the gas pedal a smidgen, the revs fell big style - there was no way I could keep it at a constant rev speed.....

Hi guys, thanks for getting bk.I've been up the garage today and they have changed,ht cables and the coil pack. however, it's still doing it!!! But mild now not as bad.I give up,thinking of selling it tbh, spending to much n still no joy.pity really coz I love these cars.

a guy i know got same juddering problem, and garage also plugged it to tester and it showed speed sensor, which i later changed along with crank sensor and its still doing the same

he also changed spark plugs, engine ecu, both coil packs, ht leads
usually juddering is cured by changing ht leads or coil packs, but not in this case which is strange
i later plugged it to computer and it didnt show any errors but it is still juddering...

fuel pump? injectors?

Hi, haven't changed injector but put cleaning solution through it which should b ok yea? fuel pump is another story. Was told to change the fuel filter, however on inspection today found the bloody thing is in 1 unit.so whole thing would need replacement.not happy lol, this means it's going for sale, no more pouring cash at this me thinks.

yes the fuel pump and filter is 1 unit, its not a servicable item
Since the filter SITS in the fuel, it get washed out when you give it a good dose of petrol :)

Yea the crap sits in the tank - hence the filter

Anyway
Juddering in low gears - ie taking off, but not when currently moving
could forwell be clutch judder - a problem related to the clutch causing the issue

But if the judder is all the way all gears
i'd suspect engine, weather it's a engine caused miss - HG / Compression
or a electrical - Coils, injectors for example

Mines still Judders, been like that since I've bought it in Feb. I've had new plugs, leads, service, air filter, throttle body cleaned and still it Judders.

Mine occurs when driving in gears 1,2,3 and sometimes 4 but only when I take my foot off the gas, to stop the judder I have to put the clutch down fully. This makes driving at slow speeds an uncomfortable ride and makes me look like a **** driver. I don't really want to keep throwing money at it.

Any suggestions guys? Any local to Burnley or Blackburn area who fixes puntos?

PS mines an mk2b 1.2 active 2006

Cheers

Neil

So you changed the coil packs?

Neil, I've done most things now n yes it's a pain in the butt.we r now looking at fuel pump or clutch plate change.my hubby is in the trade n knows mechanics, they say it could b either of those.I'm now finding it hard to get into 5th gear. WHAT IS GOING ON!!!

I sometimes struggle to get into 1st but put that done to car being cold, probably all connected to the clutch

Change the entire throttle body folks, not cleaning, that doesn't work.told today by fiat specialist!!

I've not changed those yet. Guy who did plugs and ht leads said they all liked like they've been done recently.

Throttle body needs replacing,if u haven't seen my thread.got it from fiat specialist today.that will work,no more pouring pointless cash at it,this is the issue

Gotta order in the part but 100% confidence it's gonna get fixed.after all this guy knows his fiats..as e told me,not only did e do all his training with them but has also owned 11of their cars.all the other garages I took it to didn't ave a clue tbh, took days in each, every time just trail n error fixes.this guy takes 10MINS, gets it sussed...I will b hopefully sorting it next wk.he's busy so it's gotta b booked in..I will definitely keep u posted!!
