Maybe he has assumed the identity of the guy who lived there previously talented mr ripley style and had to go to hospital recently where tests on his blood proved he was not who he claimed to be and since his fraud has been exposed the police are about to swoop in to arrest him and search for the remains of the house's previous occupant.
