hi guys ive only just noticed that the car whin's when the clutch isnt pressed in but when i press it it goes away what could this be????????? also its a 1.1 mk1 55s

Fist stop release bearing, not gearbox.

May be the start of the bearing beginning to die. Possibly a previous owber has used the clutch pedal as a foot rest overheating the bearing.

Worst case scenario is that the bearing seizes and starts eating the forks on the cover plate.

Replace all three clutch components when the time is due.

Cheers

so i can leave it till it dies then and just change it when it does or change it before it dies.

Rally's right I've got myself confused.
A dodgy release bearing is often ok as its working only when you press the pedal. BUT... when it does go you'll have no usable clutch. It also might sieze solid and mess up the release fork. Best get it changed pretty soon along with the clutch. Chances are that's half toasted anyway.
