Technical Whining noise from Distributor

My Uno Millenia 2000 model has suddenly as from yesterday developed this whining noise coming from the distributor. Went to a mechanic today and he took off the distributor cap and inspected inside, stating he could not see any damage and was stumped. What could the problem be?

Find a garage with a stethoscope, to localise the noise properly.
