Hi,

Quick question. Over the past few weeks ive noticed that theres a short whine from the front of the car every time I change gear. This seems to be related to the clutch because I also get the noise if i slightly depress the clutch without actually changing gear. The noise seems to get worse as the journey goes on - almost as if something is warming up? It seems likely that this is either the clutch or the gearbox - any ideas?

Also I have noticed that the rear drivers side suspension seems to be knackered - im getting a rubbing noise when going around left turns if I have people in the back. Is it an easy job to check if my shocks are knackered and if so replace them? If not what is a sensible price from a garage?

Many thanks to those who answer :)

The sound from the front is I asume the clutch - but in this case its hart to tell.

What the rubbing noise goes - is teh car loverd, what size wheels you have and is the rubbing a metal grinding noise or scraping on the chasis of teh car ?

the noise from the front is the cluch slave cylinder. My sisters JTD does the same thing except it's REALLY REALLY noisy!!

Do you get it everytime u depress the clutch... but while driving along it's really quiet???

Sounds like the clutch slave cylinder anyhow... but pop down to fiat they should diagnose it for you and offer a quote.

How loud is the rubbing noise??? could it be brake related or as simple as summit cought in the wheel or wheel arch??

any more suggestions???

sounds more like the clutch release bearing making noise..

Thanks folks.

Erm the noise from the clutch is every time I press it - even a little bit. It goes completely when ive changed gear. Its not that loud, so cant hear it on the motorway, but can when about town. It starts of quiet and gets louder the more I drive.

I have fiat coupe 15" alloys on the car but it isnt lowered at all. I can tell that the car seems to slope towards the wheel in question when sat on my drive, so i think it must be the suspension. The grinding noise sounds like either the wheel rubbing on the arch or possible the suspension rubbing on the arch? My wheels are 205/55/15R

I'd recommend that when you change tyres you get 205/50/15s as that is the correct tyre size for Bravs on 15s.

Thanks Mate... was wondering about either 50s or 45s.

Im not so bothered about the rear wheel at the mo, I swapped the rears with the fronts and its a lot less - got slightly more worn tyres on the back. Obviously there is a problem because you can see the car slopes a bit if you look closely, but it'l wait.

Anyone got any more thoughts on the clutch?
