Another oil question! I'm completely confused about which oil I should use in my 100HP. It currently has Selenia WR (5W40 for deisels). This is what a Fiat specialist say Fiat recommend. My dealer say you shouldn't use WR because it's for diesels and they recommend 20K (this is what the handbook says). People on here seem to think Fiat recommend 5W40.

I don't want to go back to 10W40 for two reasons. It's not as good when cold, and I think it's bad practice to move to a thicker oil (ok to go to a thinner one though). I don't want to invalidate my warranty but I suspect that the WR has already done that (it doesn't meet one of the specs)? As I'm completely confused by Selenia oils now I was thinking about getting a different fully-synth 5W40 oil eg. Mobil S.

What do people think would be best? Should I go for the Mobil?

Does the trader Oilman not frequent FF? At one time, he seemed to be on every forum! :D

For some reason the site has banned him and opie from F/F..I gather its to do with the fact they didnt recomend selenia oils and sold the ones they stocked..(n)

They do stock oil that carry the required Fiat spec though.

Selenia 20K (as per the 100HP manual) is FIAT 9.55535-G2, which is basic Semi Synthetic 10W40.
Selenia WR 5W40 is a Diesel ONLY oil, it has no approvals at all for use in Petrol engines...

The Selenia website currently lists Selenia K PE, which is FIAT 9.55535-S2.
Fuchs TITAN GT1 5W-40 also has FIAT 9.55535-S2 approval.

But fiat do love to shove that wide range crap down the throat of our petrol engine ..which I do not agree with..its just another of their little ploys to screw the nuts out of their customers IMHO....Opie is a good site and I do get some wicked deals from them from time to time..every now and again we even get free shipping as well..[and no i dont work or get paid for recomending them]:p

F/F banning them is not justified ..

I don't know the details but one things about their site that slightly annoys me is that when I put the 500 in they return oils which aren't even the right viscosity for it. Not cool at all!!!!!

I went through this last year when I bought some top up oil, they gave me the expensive diesel stuff.

I had about three calls to the dealer and eventually gave in. They put that Wide Range stuff in when they did the service.

Since I've got 4 litres of Mobil 1 lying around 0w-40 I've been using that. It might be utter tosh, but in my mind the engine feels free-er revving (is probably just me).

Obviously Mobil 1 is far better quality than that wide range mineral stuff.

I'm sure you'd be fine using magnatec in all honesty.
