Hi all, im mainly in the punto section as i currently own a mk2b.

Ive been looking at a few cars recently and i think ive decided between a 1.3 multijet [90] grande elaganza or the 1.4 t-jet sporting. I can get them for similar prices and was wondering what everyone on here would choose?

The multi-jet - Diesel = good mpg, but ive heard they have bad turbo lag?
eleganze trim = top spec, climate control, the works.

The t-jet - Quick, but not as good mpg, sporting trim = good level of equiptment.

I will mainly be using it for a runaround and to and from my placement job next year (probs gonna be 30-40 odd motorway miles each way)

Ive read the comparisons between the multijet and t-jet sportings, I dont want this thread to turn into one of the qrguments, which is better.

Im more concerened in the trim levels between the elaganza and sporting

Whats everyone oppinions on the cars?

i use my sporting t-jet to travel from my ome n south wales up to notingham once a month and back because i do a course up there. and it is very very good on the mororway, even better now it has been re-maped.

mpg is very good also i can average 48mpg driving at around 65/70mph.

IMO the main issue is the suspension, I find the set up of the Sporting ie the Tjet to be very compromised in town, speed bumps etc its also jiggly on the motorway and seems prone to wearing out other things due to its firmness, if comfort is a priority go for a non sporting As standard the handling isnt all that either so there isnt all that much up side to the Sporting spec other than looks. Just my opinion of course, noone needs to get shirty!

and to add. the 1.3 multijet, to me, has no get up and go in the grande punto at all tbh.

it even feels sluggsh in a panda/500.

been running around in a 1.3MJ 500 recently & its great fun, if your in right gear at right time to 'keep it on the boil' its good, better than 1.2. I'd take 1.3 engine over 1.2 (and maybe 1.4?) anyday.

I cant  I average about 32 with a mixture of driving. 260miles to 35 litres.

heavy foot FTW...

i'd take the sporting every time, looks better and go's better.

tbh, you can compare them because they are completely different imo. one if luxurious (kinda :p) and one is a sport model. If your young, which im going to assume you are then its a hands down winner for the sporting.

although, having said that, i was after a sporting before i got mine.

the ride isnt compromised at all imo- could do with being stiffer as standard.

That is driving sensibly most of the time lol

Ahh! I get 49-50 and thunder up and down the M6 like a loon!

Go for the 1.9 Diesel!

50mpg from a Tjet? No chance and i wouldnt want a tractor thanks.

No its diesel. I took the tjet on a test drive when I was shopping for the car and found that yes, the tjet has the mjet off the line, but the mjet has more pull around the 60-90 mph range (more useful for motorway). My mjet will happily do 50 mpg at 80-85 mph on my daily 120 mile journey to work. Saying that it is running on v power

Yup, but I find the car picks up quicker, it smoother and is more economical. Will get an extra 40-50 miles per tank if I use it. Saying that, in my old petrol turbo astra unning on v power did give it more kick

Yeh i am young, (19), Insurance should be too much of a problem, ive done a few quick quotes and theres only about £200 difference per year between what im paying now and the t-jet, the mj will be cheaper.

The quick t-jet engine and sporting looks appeal to me, but so does the eleganza trim (climate control, etc..) and economy (plus cheap tax) of the mj engine

I will get down to fiat and try and get test drives in each and see which i prefer.

How do they look for reliability? is the mj more reliable being a diesel, or is that a myth?

Myth. Can i just ask why you are looking at the 1.3 diesel and the Tjet and not the 1.9 diesel and the Tjet?Oh also Tjet was cheaper for me to insure than the 1.9Mjet and im also 19.

Its going to, there the characteristics of a diesel. Oh and Vpower wont make any difference to power.

Shell V-Power, Ferrari fuel for your car

Shell V-Power has been formulated by the Shell scientists who developed Ferrari’s Formula One race fuels. Shell V-Power's unique cleaning agents and FMT have been formulated to help increase an engine’s responsiveness and improve driving performance.

Not according to Shell Matt.

Im not getting into it in this thread go and look in the hundreds of other ones on the matter. It will only make a difference if your car has a map to run higher octane fuel thats when it will increase performance. Ie Msport bmws, audi RS's and porkas. If you use it in normal cars it will just burn cleaner keeping then engine cleaner which some people will argue gives you more power but it doesnt.

Oh and shell are gonna say it increases performance arent they? If they said it didnt what would be the point of it over normal petrol?

Valid points Matt,

I was referring to V Power Deisel mate, the actual make up of deisel means the deposits are more prevelant than with petrol,so, the more the engine is "cleaned" the more likely there will be some power gain, can't speak for V Power petrol as I have not used it.(y)

Price mainly, i can get the 1.3 and the tjet for a similar price, the 1.9 sporting is more expensive. The other thing is the spec, the elaganza trim attracted me initially,

but think im swaying towards the tjet sporting now

I use super unleaded in mine im not expecting power gains off it but if it helps keep my engine clean and in better condition why not.

You can get the 1.9 for a few hundred quid more if you look in the right places. IE Fiat supasaver, broadspeed etc just dont pay the 12+k dealers want for them you can get Tjets for as little as 9k new now.
