I am quite keen to get an alarm for my car after a few friends have recently had problems.

I have remote central locking on my MK2 Sporting, can these be upgraded to be an alarm also.

What sort of alarms are there out there, and what cost? Cheaper the better of course (without it being worthless)! :D

And would an alarm help on insurance?

Cheers :D

Just had a Toad Ai606 fitted to my Active Sport.

Very happy with it, especially as I didn't have remote central locking before.

As for insurance, despite it being a Cat 1 alarm it didn't make any difference to my premium (I'm with Admiral but I know of several others that apparently no longer give discounts beyond immobilisers).

Alarms are so common place these days I don't believe it warrents much of a discount :(

Alarms usefulness is also so limited :(

if you get it pro fitted then you most likely will get a (small)discount, more if its a thatcham.i fitted a toad sterling pro to my cinq not long ago, which was £89.99 from direct car parts.good alarm/immob; shock sensor, remote locking, ignition auto lock,2 button remote gives arm/disarm options.fitted with no problems at all

I got the Toad CT4 (2-1 upgrade from my standard imobiliser, the CT5 has an imobilser as well) - it was the max power rebadged one.

You could have the non max power one for £10 less, BUT, you got a £100 discount off voucher with the mp one to be used with Adrian Flux. So rang up, got them to the cheapest possible quote, then said i had the voucher.. bonus :) - even better, they didnt' ask me to send it in, so I used it the year after too :) hurrah!

>> meta seem to be a good make, but i see it doesnt do remote locking

If you already have central locking then you can buy a remote module from fiat that links into your locking system. According to the spec no wiring or specialist tools are required and it can be fitted in around 15 minutes. i saw a few on ebay a while ago for arpund £50.

I've just managed to find one of these Fiat remote locking kits. Will they work on a Sporting Cinq? It says Seicento, Punto etc, but no mention of a Cinq...

Good price, doubt it will get me cheaper insurance but it's peace of mind for only £50 :D

Meta seem to be the choice for Fiat as per the Brio catalogue. Have to say that does seem to be a good price but don't underestimate the work required for fitting.

The guy who fitted my Toad Ai606 had all sorts of bits off the inside and as for the wiring....my god.

Good price though. £104.65 from Fiat.

Yer I am quite worried about the wiring etc, I may get a mate round to give me some help / do it for me :D

Or I will take it round a couple of garages and ask for a fitting price.

My Punto has Remote Central Locking as standard, so this will be an addition to that, I will have one button to activate that alarm and normal key for remote central locking, I don't mind pressing an extra button for some security tho :D

THe only thing i can advise is to avoid at all possible costs any alarm made by sparkrite.

I've got a Sparkrite, bought it for my old Uno then transferred it to the Punto. It's crap! Every little thing sets it off, but it's too quiet and easily silenced. [xx(]
Might replace it following this Saturday night [:(!]
