When to paint bodykits ?

Can someone tell me what the procces is for fitting bodywork extras like Sideskirts or a front/rear Valance.
If the parts come unpainted, can/do I take them to a paint shop to get them painted before they go on the car ?
Or do they need to be fitted before the painting ?
Im just wondering how long the bodyshop would need my car in if i was getting something like this done ?

When i had skirts added to my old stilo I had them painted first and then fitted some where else.
Took bout a day to fit and a day to paint so not to long at all.
