Technical Wheel Size

Hey guys, as some of you may know I have some 15" alloys that I'm currently reconditioning, but when I tried to fit one to test, it seemed to rub the rear wheel arch. I've seen other posts on here about 15" wheels, but nothing about needing spacers.

Will I need spacers on all 4 wheels? The figures on the side of the wheel are 195/55/15. All suspension on the car is standard.

Your suspension is either knackered or you don't have 15 inches.
If you do your tyres must be HUGE!

The tire size is quite large for a mk1 punto.
the standard tire size probably was 155/70R13 and 195/55R15 is 5cm (2 inches) taller.
That together with a wrong ET-value/offset can result in a not fitting wheel.

I have 195/50/R15 and there fine, so either the extra 5cm in width is causing the rubbing or something else not right on car.

The tyre size mentioned should be fine, more like the et, or car is lower then usual.

Ok what do you mean by 'et'? It rubbing on the inside of the rear wheel against the arch, haven't tried the front wheels yet, will test them asap. The car isn't lowered, just standard suspension & height. Thanks for the replies.

ET is Offset, it basically means how far from the centre of the wheel the hub facing is.
I'm not sure what a standard offset for Mk1's is, probably about 30-35? Take one of the new alloys off and stamped on it somewhere will be a number preceded by ET.

However, from what you're saying, I think the ET value will be too low which is not something you can fix with spacers (as they'll just push the tyre further into the arch, which it's already rubbing on).

If it is rubbing on the inside, spacer will sort it. But as mentioned above, if its also rubbing the arch then the car is to low/nakered and needs sorting.

I realised the other day that out of the 4 tyres I have two are 195/55/R15 and two are 195/50/R15. The wheels aren't rubbing the arch, just the back of the arch, behind the wheel if you get me.

Yo guys here's an update to my wheels. I've pretty much finished them, just need to give the last one another spray or two. Here's a picture of how they will hopefully look on the car.

What do y'all think?
I can't fit them just yet as I do need spacers, I checked again with this wheel and it rubs too much for my liking.

Yeah that look's cool. I was thinking of spraying the rim a different colour, but not sure what. TBH at the moment I'm pleased with how they look so will leave for now

It should be 195/45 R15 for the mk1 Punto. /50 profile if too big but /55 is just ridiculous. Were these alloys off a mk2 by any chance? Mk2 Puntos have a larger permissible rolling radius.

Yeah that probably why they don't fit plush then. The previous owner said they off a MK1 but I didn't believe them TBH. So if I fit 195.45 tyres to these they should fit OK without spacers?

You need to know the offset to be sure. mk1 offset should be 35mm. Find out what offset the wheels are and subtract 35mm from that value, and that's the thickness of spacer required. If the offset is lower than 35mm then you have problems (since there is no such thing as an anti-spacer), but since the rubbing is on the inner edge, I don't think you will have this issue.

I think 195/55s are too big, find out what size your car originally came with and use the link below. If they are Bravo wheels, they are a 6j rim with a 40mm offset
