Ok... on realising I'm having an existential crisis does anyone on here have any thoughts for why they are on this earth?

Have/will you achieved something that has made the world a better place?

Does the idea of being reaonably insignficant bother you?

What's you aim in life?

What do you want to do when you "grow up"?

My thoughts:

So far I don't think I've achieved anything that makes the world a better place apart from working for a charity but I still think I'm fixing the bad karma I produced after working for a bank.

Will I? I really hope so.

My aim in life is to be happy... on paper I should be already...

I wanted to be a Vet, now I want to be an estate warden (of a national trust property or something similar).

A quote from a work colleague:

There is no point other than the ones you invent, it is all absurd.

You are condemned to be free. Choose this or that.

I don't think I've ever really thought about it, my main aim in life is to be financially secure and happy obviously. I'm happy with things as they are atm. But I've never really thought that I had a point for being on this earth, we are just here and thats that.

Wow, take a chill pill, Karma this Karma that,

All I do is think about what I want (physically, materialistically, and emotionally) and put my energy into getting it...

As they say, "be careful of what you wish for...it might just come true"

there is no reason, it only happened because it could.

i dont care either way, making the world a better or worse place has no value and no consequence. in the long run the world will not exist and neither will mankind. everything we have ever done will cease to exist in any form at all. absolutely everything you do has no consequence.

i like it. it gives me the freedom to do whatever i want without worrying if i'm doing the right thing.

What's you aim in life?
to satisfy my wants and needs.

What do you want to do when you "grow up"?
keep on growing as long as possible (unless i stop enjoying it).

I believe in Karma. Can't help it.

I think my problem is I have what I wanted. And I appreciate it but don't knwo what to aim for next.

Oh! Of course the other thing is that you need the 'balls' to go and get some of these things....

That's never been my problem. I always get what I want.

Perfect summary, jug (y)

Jug is always good at these kinda things :chin: Not sure I agree completely (on the significance questions) but it's nice to read someones opinion. His aims and what he wants to be is somethign to think about though:)

The world is a horrible place.

I am a blip in the history of time.

My aim is to die in my sleep.

I will NEVER "grow up"

My favourite existential quote is from Sartre, "Hell is other people". Not bad for a Frenchie.

I had the same problem a few years ago. I was a uni lecturer, and made it to be a head of department (this was what I was aiming for) and no! I was not your typical dowdy uni type, was young, energetic, down to earth and realistic, and had a real passion for helping others improve their knowledge and understanding.

But I was at what I thought was the place I was destined to be...then I realised there must be more...

Anyway, thought about what next, I thought "I know, I want to write a book" so I did, actually wrote and got published two of them.

Then what? I know, Live in another country, so off I went to Spain....

In Spain, I had a head problem, huh!? I had a brain hem, Oh no! Survived this scot free, after brain op and moved back to the UK.

However, after this near death jobby, I decided, that nothing really matters only bar a couple of things

Live your dreams (I now own my own company - this was next on the list) and treat all with respect.

Life is TOO short, this I know for sure!

It still boils down to having the balls to do what you want to do though! Go on, jump in, what's the worst that can happen?(y)

"Nihilists! F*uck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos."
From the Big Lebowski

You must include a context, otherwise the quotation does not make too much sense. I am lazy to explain what the situation was, anyone interested can get the movie on DVD easily.
I highly recommend it :D:D:D.
BTW, can you get sarsaparilla in UK (the drink The Stranger orders in the movie)? It is not available where I live.

does anyone on here have any thoughts for why they are on this earth?

It's either:

a) I'm going to be hit by a radioactive meteor and take on superpowers

or....

b) By luck....My ancestors managed not to die before they passed on the DNA that eventually became me.

Have/will you achieved something that has made the world a better place?

I've loved someone without limit.

Does the idea of being reaonably insignficant bother you?

How does any of us know if we are insignificant?....Who's to say one of us won't do something that will go down in history....?

What do you want to do when you "grow up"?

Wear a Top Hat and a Monocle and drive a chopped '32 Ford around the streets of Monte Carlo

our record of history wont exist in the not too distant future. going down in history is a temporary thing, time will erase our history completely.

once man has gone everything we have made will soon follow us, leaving not one trace that we ever existed. if that isnt final enough for you, the sun will swallow the earth (unless it is otherwise destroyed first). one way or another we will be leaving without any trace.
