Can anyone tell me what the light that look like this means on my dashboard?

(!)

It come one when I am going round a sharp bend or roundabout and break/or dont break enough.

Is this right?

its the hand brake light cannot bleeding remember what makes it do it at mo[:(!] but will let you know later if i remember

Definately the brake fluid indicator. I know this cos on my old uno it came on and I assumed the handbrake sensor had broken, but six months later at the service the mechanic told me the brake fluid was dangerously low!

so am i right in thinking that aside from being the handbrake 'on' light it's also the brake fluid light... sorry if I'm being thick but it's a bit wierd to have one light do two different things...

I assume they just put them together because they are both brakes!

It simply points to the braking system overall.

First step is to check the brake fluid level - if it's low (and as long as it was at the correct level before), it's highly likely that your brake pads/shoes/discs have worn down. The wear means the brake fluid level drops (it's all very sensitive though so you may find that sometimes the light will go off).

Whatever you do - don't just top up the fluid and leave it at that.

Brake pads can be checked quite easily by jacking the car up, removing the wheel and simply looking (no need for removal). Remember to check both pads on each wheel. At this time you can also check for wear on the discs. These generally don't need replacing too often - there will be a tolerance of how deep they should be grooved (where the pads grip them) before replacing. Not sure how deep that is.

Hope this is a start anyway.

The (!) is the handbrake, the brake pad light looks something like this (O) with the () dashed. I know because they come on sometimes after i changed the pads, havent had the time to visit the garage yet :D

Yeah that is the pads (O) but the (!) is brake fluid as well as handbrake... at least on a base model 55s I know for sure

yep its handbreak light wich means the lil switch inside ya handbrake is loose andthink you got handbrae still on

or its low brake fluid wich when you go round corner the fluid in the top up bottle moves to side and if to low makes the light come on.

either of these shouldnt be to expensive to fix

2001 Punto sporting in sprint blue with matching Mr Bump air freshner all together now mmmmmmm

Just on the topic of warning lights, my 2001 punto over the last two days has been blinking its warning lights at me. just short flashes. its the airbag one.

the airbag warning symbol sometimes flashes at random times, but more and more often under any sort of use of the brake. electrical fault i presume cos even if its a touch of the pedal to show the brake lights it'll happen.

bit concerned that its the airbag, could do without that goin pop mid flight!B)[xx(]

Talked to the garage today and they told me that the (O) symbol (with the sides dashed) is pads and brake fluid and I prolly just needs to top up some break fluid. I see that another post sais its the (!) (handbrake) symbol that is the breakfluid. Which one is correct?

When on the brake topic, which kind of brake fluid should be used in the mk1 punto(75SX)?

Nevermind, looked in the manual and it clearly sais that its the handbrake light. Guess its time to take it back to the garage.

I had a W reg new punto and it used to do exactly the same as you describe. Mine was simply that the handbrake would float up slightly (not even one click on the ratchet). May be it is similar? Try taping it back down.

As for cure? No idea. Once I figured out what it was I ignored it!

It says in my manual that the (O) is for break fluid. Also where you top up your break fluid, it has ths same symbol on a sticker on the cap, well it does on mine.

Punto 55 SX all in black... That's my bitch!

Just to update for anyone wondering (and for anyone later searching the forum). It was a loose cable connected to somewhere around the braking pads/discs. It was fixed on a minute by the garage.
