any help?, btw i ran PC Wizard and it says i only have 96Mb of physical Memory :( so i dont know whivh to belive!!

anything else i can find out :D

ATM is at the moment :)
the memory situation. could mean that the graphics card for the pc is using your main memory rather then seperate memory

? eh........ i dont have a seperate graphics card, mines part of the motherboard, and i dont think its too fab (its okay tho :) )

thats what I mean, as its on the mainboard its nicking the main memory as it doesnt have its own :)

oh okay then, as i say, id much rather use a camputer that know what makes it go :D
it wasnt to bad for £130 p&p, i just need some more memory :bang:

is thats whats causing my pc to be @ 100% all the time??

that wont be the cause. Will be some form of software best thing to do is go into the task manager (right click the task bar and then task manager) and see what processes are running.
if you click on the cpu column twice, it will bring the cpu using process to the top

Right click on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen and select 'task manager'. That should give you an idea of which programs are using memory and processing power on your PC. You may be able to shut down some of the useless/ rogue ones and free up some memory and CPU power.

Running XP Pro with only 128Mb of RAM must be a strain, surely - although to be at 100% must mean something else is also having a good bite as well....

right i did that, and i ended something called Pop3trap.exe, and its gone down to 2% :D, and seems a little bit faster, so im chuffed :p

and 128Mb is the minimum amount for my copy of XP,but i should be getting some more RAM when i get some money!!! any of you techies got any DDR-SDRAM PC3200 spare, cuz from what ive seen ppl always have loads of extra stuff :D

Serin re. pop3trap, here's what it does:
Background task from Trend Micro?s PC-Cillin antivirus software which scans e-mails for viruses as they are being downloaded and before they hit your mailbox.

Recommendation :
Essential for the proper protection of your PC against email-borne viruses, so you should leave this task untouched. However, over the years we have had reports from Outlook Express users, and from AOL Tech Support Engineers, indicating problems linked directly to POPTRAP where Outlook Express, or the AOL software, freeze while downloading messages (what we have ourselves observed is 99% CPU utilization by POP3TRAP on some PCs, which equates to freezing the PC!). Temporarily disabling either PC?Cillin?s e-mail scanning, or PC?Cillin completely, usually immediately solves the problem. With this in mind, make sure you regularly ensure that you have the latest software updates for your PC-Cillin antivirus software, and not just the virus definitions updates ? this should ensure you do not encounter problems with this task.

Pop3trap will be coming from some antivirus software! What are you running Serin, Nortons or something similar? It must have been chocking the system, waiting for something.....

Memory is cheap - I will find you a configurator for your mobo, so you can select the right type, then buy if from Dabs or eBuyer or your fav online store - easy :)

I run 1Gb on my XP Pro, and I think that is minimum.....

EDIT - PC-Cillin - ah, I run that on my office laptop - can be a right pain sometimes, lol.

thats who i was gonna get it off of, just gotta wait until i get some Money :( and how did you know i have PC-cillin, or did you just remember?
i also use Sygate Personal firewall, because i can see and understand it better, but thats it.

when i first got my pc i had like 4/5 firwalls and antivirus softwares on, i was so nervous about someone harming it :D but i nearly crippled it, it was that slow :)

i do run ad-aware, and i used to have Spybot s+d but i heard form Download.com, that i contained spyware (just like kazza) :yuck:

use adaware and spybot to get rid of stuff.

(seems when I was doing this post, all that had been mentioned)

also it might be worth while using avast for an avp. free home use licence as well and without the bloat.

Helz, you repated what I said on page 7 about getting the task manager up ;) (damn, thats the forth time thats happened to me today on verious things  )

crucial.com/uk is the best for memory prices and delivery is free and and with 1 - 2 day, unlike ebuyer and its 1 week delivery at cost and dabs 2 - 3 day at cost delivery.

About the firewall. If you have SP2 installed its perfectly fine to use the XP firewall now rather then a third party one. Also saves a bit on resorces as well
