im trying to open up an excel file

It sounds like it's trying to open something which is corrupt. Is that just opening the application or opening a file?

Hmm sounds like its a dead file. Is your anti-virus up to date? There are virus' about which damage excel files.

I think so. Its a file I made with plenty of macros and complicated stuff. It just stopped working last night. Although the file size does seem stupidly large for what it is

it's trying to source another file, perhaps the original coder had his/her macros in an external include (it's part of the VBA project) and now the macro you're using doesn't have that users source files, so it's finding an empty file.

Has the file only been on that PC or has it been moved around?
