What's made you grumpy today?

What's made you grumpy today?

10pm, someone is letting off fireworks. Quite a good display, but not appreciated.
Next door's squawky dog is now going berserk, accompanied by its owner screaming at it to shut up, making marginally more noise than the dog.

I think I need a house at least 100yds from any other.

Aye, not the ideal situation, especially under the circumstances at the moment. All quiet in our wee village..:)

I am less enthusiastic about plastic slave cylinders than I was yesterday.
Wife's Sporting (169 Panda Multijet)had a slight problem selecting gears on Friday, but as it rained mostof yesterday, didn't look at it until this morning.
Problem was Master Cylinder, easy to diagnose, not a problem as I have spares.
Changed the Master cylinder, using an LPR one I got from Autodoc ages ago (despite having ordered LUK, but that's another story) - no pipe, but easy enough to swap over.
Time to bleed the clutch.
Connect up the vacuum bleeder, and loosen the 4mm hex grub screw about 1/4 turn. Bleeder only sucks bubbles. Try pressing clutch, some fluid comes through, then back to bubbles.
Tighten up grub screw and test pedal. Some clutch, but near the bottom of travel.
Repeat the bleeding process.
Clutch pedal now OK, so put everything back together, after cleaning up the small amount of fluid which got past the grub screw.
Took for a test drive.
Clutch slowly getting nearer the floor on each change.
Take it all apart again to find fluid round the grub screw. Decided to change the slave cylinder.
Just as well, as on inspection there was no grub screw thread in the plastic.
Strange thing is... I do the maintenance on this car, and the only time that grub screw was touched since it came out of the packet was when I loosened and tightened it today. (I fitted it about 4 years ago using the "quick" connector, so didn't need to bleed it)

The slave cylinder in Mrs Dave's Panda had a rusted up bleed screw. Despite trying every hex metric and imperial and Torx I possess it could not be removed. Thankfully I had not chucked out the old one from my car. It cleaned up nicely and with some anti seize** on the screw it was working just fine.

** To protect the screw from rust.

A stainless grub screw might be a good replacement bleed screw (its an M6), but that means opening the hydraulics so I won't be holding my breath for that "upgrade".

By the way, I bleed the clutch with the pedal. It involves a bit of running back and forth but as the pedal stays down and has to be pulled up again, there are no worries about sucking air back into the slave cylinder.

My neighbour also barks at her dog. At least one of them is bright enough to be a dog.

I have a dog that can get excitable. I have found that by far the best technique to quiet him, and to get him to obey commands is to whisper to him. If I bark at him, he barks back and thinks its a huge game....... He also gets an accasional pssst or Hoi. Both of which ne plainly understands.

Mazda is parked until the garage has seen it...currently has a high pitched whine when you lift off, which doesn't go away regardless of gear or even if you knock it into neutral and lift the clutch while rolling. Is combined with the knock I've been chasing for a while...so I guess whatever it is has had enough. Sounds like a bearing is not happy somewhere or the diff is knackered.

However the main thing that made me grumpy today was not pulling over to attend to that at Durham services. No I had to pull over at Durham services because my son has a cold, sneezed and then rubbed it across his cheek into his hair. Saw this in the mirror and had to pull over as I just couldn't deal with that in the mirror for the the next 40 minutes :ROFLMAO:.

Try some Molyslip. It is quite effective at restoring order as long as the problems are not massive.

Someone visiting a neighbour attempted to kick my exceedingly friendly cat.......
Thankfully Mini, my cat , got away without being kicked.

Did you "have words" with the would-be cat kicker?
What is wrong with people?
I did have words with the female would- be kicker (late 50s early 60s) and her husband. They couldn't comprehend that her actions were wrong , cruel or could cause serious harm to a small animal.

It does make you wonder sometimes about the mindset of a lot of people, young and old. No respect or empathy for anything other than themselves.

The failed garage lights last night caused me to forget the very sad sight we saw on our way home. Coming down to the roundabout at the end of the bypass, where the bypass meets the A1, the dual carriageway gains a lane on the inside so you can go left and climb up onto the A1 dual carriageway and head towards the Kinnaird Park shopping mall and onwards to Seafield. Heavy traffic last night (tail end of rush hour) and I was just peeling off into that left lane when I became aware of blue flashing lights ahead. Yes they are in that inside lane so, with only my N/S wheels over the line, it was easy to indicate right and ease my way back into the middle lane.

When we got up to the roundabout there was a Police BMW parked sideways on in the inner lane with everything that could flash flashing and on the other side of it a poor wee dark coloured - maybe dark grey? - Fiat 500 Abarth stationery in the inside lane. The heavy rain we'd had all day was over by then but it was still "spitting" and there was a couple standing on the hard shoulder looking absolutely miserable. No other car in evidence so probably just a breakdown. Mrs J and I both felt very sorry for them.

We buy any car booked...car emptied, change of vehicle quote done on moving the insurance to the C3 and sacking the additonal policy off, which is free. V5 found etc etc.

Sad day to be honest..last day we had out in it.

But the point is, at the moment that photo was taken..my wife was asleep and I could have done exactly the same thing in the other car, well not quite because it doesn't have a big shelf back bumper to sit on.

In case you're wondering as to how much damage an isofix seat does in 3 years..

Must try and beat it back into shape a bit, coming soon to cinch.

Sad times. Do you reckon you'll be emotional to see it go?

Yeah probably, I don't have any unfinished business with it so can't see me thinking "if only I'd done such and such".

There's a lot of memories in it, had it 7 and half years and 53k miles. Very much a family friend but when it comes to it I've been keeping a family car as weekend play thing which is bonkers.

Now my son doesn't use a pram, we don't have any drive away holidays booked and I'm permanently home working the last reasons I could justify keeping it with have gone.

Preferable to watching it slowly decay outside the back gate, there's actually moss on the ground in the shape of it these days. Nothing worse for cars than just sitting doing nothing.

That's quite understandable. I'm quite a sentimental person, and cars can be more than just the sum of their parts. 1 of the reasons I dread the day I have to part with my Grande is because of all the memories it holds.
