......should i do

sell the cinq and buy a mini as i want a really good handling car and love minis, or should i mod the cinq even more and spend all my earnings on it.

would love a few replies from ex mini owners or atcual mini owners on which they prefer.

Hi Wayne, as my name suggests I have both types of car and currently use the Cinq for commuting and the mini for short spins. I consider the Cinq to be a spiritual successor to the Mini - its size, ease of maintenance and suitability for tuning are very similar. There is no doubt, the Mini is a less reliable car due to the age of its design but there is no shortage of good ones available. Minis are more expensive to buy and tuning is more expensive also - standard handling on a 12" wheeled mini is poor and needs lowering, new dampers and a big expensive bag of bushings and bits. The front subframes are mounted with squishy rubber that needs to be taken out to sharpen the handling but it makes the car very noisy to travel in. I suggest you buy mini magazine and read as much mini stuff as you can before buying one for everyday use - they are great fun but are less user-friendly than Cinqs. ANd you already have a nice cinq.....

David.

Yeah the current fashion for VTEC's is a bit odd - you spend the price of a proper sports car making a mini into a torque steering monster. A 1380cc overbore with freeflow exhaust and manifold is plenty!!!

a slammed mini will handle better than my lowered and stiffened cinq correct?

Remember im paying loads to insure my car because of being a new driver so cant have engine mods but am alowed handling mods so can beat fast cars through the bends if i can get a good enough handling car.

But but but :p

I'm getting a newer and safer car lol ;)

going from a cinq to a mini doesnt sound the best move ever As the cinq is going to be more reliable and newer :D

Ask DJ_Bucho as he started out driving with a mini and made the move to a Cinq.

If you're a new driver and an inexperienced 'mechanic', keep the Cinq !

Although Cinqs still need time spent on them to keep them running ok, you
will spend literally ALL your spare time tinkering with a mini to keep it in good
running order.

Keep the Cinq, get some no claims and if you want a toy in a few years
time, THEN get yourself a mini !!! (And a welder) !!!

Keep your cinq!

Its one of the nicest tastefully modified examples ive seen and it would be a shame if you got rid.

did he change because of other reasons etc

and by the way you car looks bloody nice from your sig any chance of some pictures
Thanks for your comments - :) - I really must put an album together.

The mini was bought and paid for unseen from a friend and described as mint but although he came with 12 months MOT he was not quite as good as he had been described. At the following MOT he failed big time and the man was less than enthusiastic about the underlying structure, so we stripped it completely and rebuilt it with new panels etc, did all the bodywork and resprayed it. In the meantime DJ was using Mr Cinq as his D2D transport and when the mini was finished it was decision time.

Common sense said the newer car was safer in an accident, had better brakes, heater, demisting, was quieter, more comfortable, and no more difficult to park. The mini, on the other hand, was a gorgeous little thing and an absolute hoot to drive and was amazing through the corners. But Mr Cinq won the day overall, and DJ not only got a very good price for the mini but increased his knowledge of cars by great deal during the year of the rebuild.

Minis? Fabulous fun, great looks, but as minislapper points out, I wouldn't really want to live with the maintenance.

Until I got Freddy the Uno back in April this year, I'd only ever had minis
as my daily drivers and never thought anything of it. (Apart from 6 months
with my MG Mutro) !!! I'd had 2 minis at a time but never anything else.

I had my pride and joy mini stolen about 18 months ago and daredn't park
another mini on the road outside so they're locked up off road and it was a
real pain getting the daily driver in and out every morning to take the kids
to school etc - hence Freddy came along.

Now the kids are big (14 and both bigger than me !!!!!).....a mini is just a
touch too small. Ok, so Charlie's not THAT much bigger !!! lol

Personally, if you're prepared to get your hands dirty and spend time almost
every weekend doing something or other, then go for a mini. I'd have no
problem having a mini as a daily driver again, provided I could find a decent
one.

If you've already spent a lot of time and money on the Cinq, then get your
enjoyment out of that. :D

i love my cinq and it drives brilliantly and still surprises a few people through the country lanes but after having my mini clubman i found out just how easy it is to get any part you could want for a mini and straight away at that.

also a mate of mine has a mini 850 which is considerably slow so i just fly past him even though ive only got an 899 and yes he does have to work on it every weekend

thanks for all the replys but i think we have a decission and i have decided to............?
