Everything, no matter how insignificant it may seem if you don't declare it and it's not standard then the insurance company are well within their rights to withold payment in the event of an incident. If your company don't care, they'll tell you but you're better to tell them and see if they want to know.

i was thinking of ringing them up and asking them if its okay that if i do ever have an accident that i dont want the modifcations covered but everything else thats still standard like if my light smashed on the front then il cover it because of what ive done but pay for any other damage that would have still happened on the car as standard, if that makes sense lol

Yeah it makes sense, but it cannot happen like that. Even when you have declared everything i.e. colour coded bumpers, they are not going to pay out the extra to have your car put back to that way, that it was before the damage. (Unless you want to add modifications cover to your policy) (Adding modifications cover is just like adding breakdown cover/legal cover - its an added extra).

Won't work like that, having added mods to it, could change the handling/performance, making the risk of you crashing higher, plus I know its stereotyping, but modding cars are generally driven by idiots, so if you crash and kill someone, and haven't declared it, your insurance won't pay out...costs around £1 million to sort out a death that way.

All depends upon the insurance company. Admiral are like this :)tosser: why charge me £35 for a £1200 LPG kit if your not going to cover it ) Where as Quinn covered it all.

Just means I'm probably never going to claim on my fully comp policy short of the car being burnt out or stolen.

Declare everything just to be safe, it can come back and bite you in the ass for the sake of a couple of hundred quid tops.

Yeah I'm with Admiral as well. Within the last couple of weeks I added exhaust system to my list of modifications and they wanted an extra £85 per year from me. An even then, that £85 isn't even used to cover the modification itself - I have to pay extra, extra for that. (n) Talk about milking it!

Insurance companies base their premiums on stats` and policy holders who carry out mods make more claims than those who dont. Therefore it follows that if you carry out a mod you will be seen as a higher risk than someone who hasnt and you will be asked to pay more for your policy to cover that risk. Its not all about what you do to the car, its the fact you are doing it.

It works both ways though......put a towbar on and if you are lucky you might see a slight drop.
