what this reputation thing when u post???

i've just noticed that where it says your location on your posts, under there next to the 2 computer screens (which tell you if that particular user is online or not) i have something that looks like scales?!?! and it say add to dunc uno turbo's reputation? is this good or bad? why do i seem to be the only one with a reputation sacales thing?? lol

I think what I noticed was that you can only see it under your own name....yourself only, nobody else sees it.

Now, my guess was that it was supposed to be used to recommend people for reputation (hence why it says "give [yoursef] reputation") but it has been badly implemented.

OR:

That it's meant to allow you to find out how many reputation points you have (but only you can do it) and as it happens, the caption saying "give [yourself] reputation" is incorrect.

Those were my guesses.

Ok, I think Ben is looking into this.

You should see scales on everybodys' posts apart from your own. BUT it seems the system has gone a bit askew.

Basically, if you like a post, that user can be given rep. BUT it was abused before, so all rep now given via Mods. Look at the sticky in your section for more info

Btw, I can see scales on all your posts, plus mine - I click on mine and am told how many rep points I have, which is strange coz Mods/Admin have a green bar, which is outside the scope of rep, lol. Weird...

Well, you can't see who put them there, but means 4 users did.

Look in USER CP and you should see the comments that have been made. However, looking at your icons under post count, no green rectangle, so implies no rep has been given out

Mine says 4 as well, so looks like a bug, lol.

I've got 4 but nothing on the user CP - my bar is all grey though so are they not linked. Not that I care, it seems with this system nobody is going to bother giving any reputation via moderators. Not that I'm complaining nobody pays any attention to it anyway.

Everyone starts on 4. And yes you should only see your own scales (however i don't know how much use they are)... and it seems it is worded badly

Actually Rich, the mods do get quite a few 'reports' requesting rep to be given out.

Click on Members list, then search by rep bar - gives you top movers & shakers

OK I get the system now, it's just that only 31 members out of 8000 have any reputation at all and even they look like they're just setting out with only one bar!

It's not like I can think of a better system anyway...

I got a pop up box a couple of weeks ago saying i had been nominated for rep due to a reply i gave for a question, but the points never appeared. however, as im no use to the forum its irrelevant if i have them or not
