Holy crap £170 + VAT for a wheel bearing!!!!!!!!!!!!! IS HE FOR REAL!?!?

Tell him so shove it, it wouldn't even cost that much to have gold plated wheel bearings with the queen fitting them.

Tell me bout it! unfortunately the queen said she was busy writing a speech, or something like that:p

Still a bit steep but that will presumably the price including labour? A warning about cheap wheel bearings - some are made of chocolate - I speak from plenty of recent experience. If your mate has one you may be OK anyway!

It did include labour, but even so I think the guy is a bit of a chancer! from what I can gather it should only take about 3-4 hours for an amateur to do it. me being below amateur, I would probably allow another couple of hours to scratch my head a bit:shrug:

:wave:Hi all, just thought you would all like to know, I got my Panda back from the garage yesterday, it is now completely silent(y) (aside from the squeeks, shakes, bangs and every other noise that comes as standard with these vehicles!) It turned out that the wheel bearing was mangled, the drive shaft wasn't damaged as such, just very very very heavily corroded so it was grinding all of the time. Also the lower ball joint was not in the best condition. So in a round about sort of way, you were all correct in your diagnostics. It cost £245 for new wheel bearing, reconditioned driveshaft and ball joint, including labour, so I am quite satisfied.

Thank you all for your help and advice, this has to be the best forum I have ever joined. :D

Hi All,
Ive got a faulty nearside wheel bearing on the front, and have just been quoted 80quid for one. Not as much as your 170 but I fitting myself using that very useful article linked arlier in this thread. Theres some for 40 on ebay, but I thought someone might have one kicking around for less than that. Im pretty 'recessional' or something
Thanks very much
Will
