What the hell is an..............

A few days ago I tried to look at some specs I'd downloaded from the website of an outboard motor manufacturer and a little box appeared that said: a334.g.akamai.net and invited me to input a user name and password.

So my question is: What the hell is an a334.g.akamai.net when it's at home?

Incidentally, the maker (Evinrude) has very recently issued a new online brochure which I have managed to download but my question still stands.

Thanks for that Chuck. Doesn't really tell me much. Maybe I'm just too naive in the world of computing to really comprehend what the Wikipedia entry was saying. I'd downloaded some technical sheets from Evinrude's website but they have changed their catalogue and instead of 20 (or however many) individual sheets to one all-in-one. I only found this out when I tried to view one of these sheets. Prior to a couple of weeks ago the one I wanted just came up, but now this akamai thing pops up.
