Maybe a daft question??

I assume it "firms up" suspension and decreases body roll while cornering??

Cheers

D

It firms up the whole car, it adds rigidity to the shell, reducing flexing when you're driving hard, helping the suspension do its job ;)

TBH mate, unless you're car is a real performance machine, and you are REALLY driving it, I wouldn't bother.

I'm no expert, but I'd personally not bother with cars like ours, unless you like the look of it? Plenty people have them in just to look the part too.

Thanks Guys

I'm sure you've realised that I've no idea about cars by now!!!!

Do i just go to halfords and ask them to do it or do I source the springs independantly and get them fitted?

Thanks again

D

i would go for the brace before anything anything else - i am getting the brace and then dropping it, getting new shocks too. i am saying what i am doing not what you should do.

Brace firms up the handling - i am doing a group buy for coupes but if anyone wants me to ask about a stilo let me know :)

One thing to note about a strut brace is that if you have a side on crash you there will be much more damage as the force of the impact is transfered to the other side of the car by the brace.

Of the Bravo forum there was someone who wrote their car off after an accident, if they wouldn't of had the brace there would of only been body work damage.

A good point, johnpen, and something that has been mentioned to me before!

D-Stilo - avoid Halfords - source the springs in from the internet [look on Club Stilo members area for extra discounts ;)] - motorsportworld or powerfiat are good sites! And I would deffo go for Eibachs. Then ring round local independent garages for a fitting price.

Sammi, I went for lowering first, having driven TCs car without a strutbrace - the springs along made a hell of a difference, and no doubt KoArAnG can vouch for that. I was even told not to bother with the shocks at this stage. The Coop is a different beast all together, so what suits one car may not suit another.

Hmmm, I wonder what the insurance company would make of that then???

THats why i said thats what i would do - but i am getting the full monty anyway so i am sure this will make a vast improvement on the handling

They can't REALLY strengthen up your car that much, or your car would suffer from scuttle shake to start with. In modern cars they are very strong, if a strut brace made a difference they'd come fitted from the manufacturer, or more likely the car would be re-designed to be stronger to start with.

I don't doubt they work on MKII Escorts and such!
