Ive had problems starting my car because theres a fuse in the engine bay which keeps on blowing on start up. So got I it towed to a fiat specialist garage, and they couldnt work it out until they looked behind my stereo and found my heater matrix had leaked all over my ecu  damn clever people those Fiat guys...I know lets put the matrix above the ecu  So here we go £510 for a new ecu. £450 for new heater matrix and labour. And already spent £110 on a doggy relay and other bits and pieces!!!! But now I have to drive my mums 55sx with the power of a lady shave, a 0-60 time of pushing a day and a half, and turning circle of a small planet. Cant stand the thing, I want my 90 elx back :( and my money...sob...:(
Someone cheer me up please??!!(y)

I wish i could cheer you up...but your yards behind me on fantasy football!

just think... it'll be back soon, and it's a nice car so it's worth it (y)
Yep your right... Was thinking about getting a GT but Ive got my car how I want it now....pics on here are pretty old now.... So I just went 4 it!!!

The heater matrix leak is a common fault on the 1.6's.

I am surprised you took it a fiat dealer though. A non-dealer garage could probably do all that for around £500, or you get get 2nd hand parts and do it yourself for less than £200. even if you have little spare time, 1 lost evening is better than paying £800 more.

I am saddened by your comments of the 55s. I had one as my first car. IT was bloody brilliant. OK, it couldn't pull the skin off a soup but the steering had a tight turning circle (regardless of what you say) and it had loads of feel. No luxuries at all made it feel more purposfull. I won't go back to one but i still love the 55's.

Yep know what you mean, but its not a fiat dealership just a fiat specialist, they do a great job...www.daysmk.com...
My mums car was acctually my first car, but when you get used to a moddified 90 elx, alloys, lowered, strut brace, uprated brakes....etc it just feels so heavy and not fun to drive:( But yeh loved it when I first had it (y)

jesus christ you paid new prices!!!

you could have done that job yourself for about £30-40:D
got to take dashboard out, but then its **** simple, maybe 3-4hours labour in there? and thats if you don't have a clue, if you have done it before maybe 2.5hr?

was going to say exactly the same thing, but add a bit more cash coz you'll need a full lock set and keys to go with the ecu, a scrapyard car could provide all that and the heater matrix for £50 if you remove it yourself, or at most it'll be £100 if you want it removed ready to collect. i'd rather get my hands dirty than pay more than the car is worth. if you're so rich that you can afford to pay a grand for repairs surely you wouldnt be driving an old punto?!

Could be worse, the insides of the diff may have chosen to visit the outside world via the gearbox like mine did on my stilo

could be worse still BBS, ive had 4 boxes die like that so far, plus a few more diff failings just not as spectacular...

on a bright side, the car is fixed, you may be out of pocket now, but its less to worry about long term, plus you will have a warrrantey on the new parts.

id have done it myself aswell and did recently do the heater matrix on my Bravo... bit of a pain of a job, but i got there for 70 quid for a new matrix from a local motor factors rather than the obsured prices garages wanted (y)

£70 for a new one is pretty damn good!

just make sure it doesn't explode! a poor woman that posted on here had one blow up on her and burn't her legs and feet horribly :(

wasn't a cheap one either £600+ job!

damn thats not good at all. was quite happy with £70 for a brand new part tbh, plus i do all the work on my car aswell now so it was a whole lot cheaper.
