Drivers footwell on my 2000 punto 1.9 hlx jtd fills up with water in this nasty wet winter weather. I've tried to seal the obvious possible leaks in the drip tray under the bonnet but so far no joy. Is this a known problem? Has anybody else had it and found a fix? Please let me know if you have any ideas.

And for the record, this is a 3 year old car, the driver's seat height adjustment doesn't work, wiper blades judder on intermittent, weird and wonderful assortment of rattles and noises, but is a true delight to drive!

Hi,

The window wipers are a common problem caused by Fiat using the wrong type of grease on the mechanism which dries up eventually and makes the wipers judder.

It is normally fixed under warranty, our's has been done.

If you don't have a warranty, you can do it yourself by taking the cover off and cleaning off the grease and then using a decent grease.

well i once had an old rover now that boy did that leake lol used huge mount sof silican sealent on it. anway check round the window see if anything can get in there especially in bottom cornders also check inside fron wheel arch, make sure nothing has a hole in it as that happend to a car of mine. although yours is new car so shoulw be ok.

failing that try to get it all dry and then run water over different areas of the car one at a time then check if anyway has appeared inside. water leaks are a pain in ass to find but can be done.

also to poggy what covers do you mean ??? when you say take of and clean grease out as i would liek to do that to mine as my warranty ran out in febuary. and the wipers bugging me now

Hi,

I think you need to remove the plastic cover over the wiper mechanism to be able to reach it.

I haven't done it myself, but it's what the garage pointed out to me when they did mine.

A car that age should not be leaking. Maybe some of the welding on the floor has failed - strangely not unheard of on a newish car. My dad had an X-reg comapny car Fiesta, new at the time, that had a leaking floor. And then a second Y-reg one that did the same. They were all recalled as I remember.

Anyway, don't Fiat have an 8-year warranty on bodywork?

re the wipers

I had this fixed under warranty. It is the bi-metal strip that controls the intermittent sweep intervals that needs changing. It is a known problem and the Fiat dealer did the change without prompting at the 24K service.

I also have a wet drivers foot well. Where do the drain pipes for the sun roof come out - the drivers kick well, but where? I ask because my roof was resprayed under warranty due to blistering and the sunroof was removed. I'm not sure that it was all assembled properly afterwards because I didn't have the wet before. The garage that did the warranty repair has since folded (Abbeymead, Chertsey). I have looked several times but can't see any obvious place that the water can get in. I must get this sorted before the warranty expires in April.[:(!]
