well i am off to oz in a few weeks and am looking for a decent pair for my trip, I have broken both my ankles, three times, and need a pair that will support them with all the walking etc I have planned, any ideas:D

plus i want them really tight so no creepy things can invade my feet!!!!

Well because its summer now in oz, you will be wanting a fabric boot. Try going for the Berghaus Explorer 4....

Woohoo! Cost me just shy of £200 or should that be cost my parents  Been all over in them and they fit like a dream. One of them has developed a kinda creak/squeek which can be annoying. Can anything be done with the sole as its starting to look a bit worn?

If youve been all over in them theyve been well worth the money. (y)

Squeeking after a long period of time is normal in walking boots especially if well used

You can get them re-soled. We used to use a company called Lancashire sports repairs. Very good on price also IIRC and very good quality. Here is the website

Nah it's not the sizing, I had thick socks on when buying and went through heaps. They just don't move with my feet, still rock solid

Id just keep persevering, maybe try a thinner pair of socks, to see if that helps

Depends on your budget and type of walking you will be doing. you can get waterproof boots from 30 quid up to 300 quid.

If im honest ladies preferred the boots not as high, around the ankles as this caused it to be uncomfortable. I always used to say dont tie them all the way to the top instead tie them up to the second last one, which seemed to help. Ladies are well hard to sell to.

How much ypu willing to spend and ill give you some ideas :)

Going to OZ i reckon you should get fabric boots as it is their summer isnt it?

ladies well hard to sell to, now I don't think u would have any problems there mr smooooth operator, or does your reputation preceed u:D

onlu kidding, I am willing to spend about 100 to 150 quid as they have to last me a long time and like i say I do have o be careful with my ankles, damm my brother, for breaking one of them twice, i would like to point out however, i hope he didn't do it on purpose:D

yes it's summer over there my unc said it was 33 degrees there yesterday, lucky sod!!

I always found Thoron socks to be very good, and i currently have wool and silk Thoron socks (£13 per pair).

Never heard of them, heard of thorlos, socks are all the same really.

I would recommend the berghaus explorer too. Very comfy boot, gore-tex so keep your feet nice and dry, sole isnt the best but will certainly be fine for OZ.

Used to sell for 79 quid in our shop. Is that about as much as you want to spend? less? more?

well i would spend more but that sounds good to me, btw what's ur shop???

thanks for the advice(y)

Its gettin there :)

in google, type these words in and should lead you to the companies website, have a browse and let me know and ill tell you good, bad etc

meindl
berghaus
scarpa
brasher
zamberlan
trezeta
salomon

For lightweight comfy approach shoes/trainers try a company called merrell

When trying them on, take your time, dont be forced into buying the boots, places like blacks, milletts etc are based on commission so went you in and out with something, dont let them push you around, especially in your situation by having had 2 broken ankles.

I would try them on with a pair of socks you are most likely to wear when you are in OZ.

Dont forgot you need a finger space of room down the back.

If they dont feel comfy when you put them on, they never will be, dont try and fight it, if it doesnt feel right dont buy
