Funny I was saying to my daughter about the Panda 1.2 she has after she said it is leisurely. Its a great engine for town work and pottering about but if you want or need speed you must change down far enough to get the revs upto at least 3600 after which it will go quite well. They do have to be driven and be grabbed by the scuff of the neck and dragged along a bit to start the performance flowing. Im in no doubt the VVT solenoid does get lazy and if you want it to function well, it needs cleaning routinely at servcice time. You then need to make sure you keep it free by revving the car like an italian would, I think, at least once a week. I think tardy performance is due to them not being driven as intended and the VVT hardly moving. No oil flow, or low oil flow causes the tiny filters to block enough to reduce the effect still further. Since I decided to give Ruby (2014 1.2) a decent burst in 3rd on our bypass weekly it goes really quite well for just 69hp. Never fast but OK. If its not driven quite briskly for a month it gets tardy again. When right these cars are really full of brio. All the 4 1.2s we have had were really pretty poor when we bought them and Mrs Panda Nut plodding about everywhere does not help. Just dont get caught speeding while driving to keep things mobile.....
