Hi

I am viewing a 57 plate 2008 Mjet Multipla tomorrow afternoon, with 1 owner and 22,000 miles on the clock with full history.

Given the low miles, what key things should I be looking for when viewing and what should I be looking for on the test drive ?

I am a former owner of a Fiat Stilo Multiwagon 1.9JTD, so know the Stilo mechanicals well.

Also can someone in simple terms explain to me what the DPF actually does and why do they cause problems.

Thanks in advance.

DPF is a Dual Particulate Filter. It basically takes nasty fumes out of the exhaust gasses. They have been know to cause problems when they clog up. They have regeneration cycles to clean themselves. Not a problem if you do regular distances. If it is a town based car then I would avoid. But I wouldn't buy a diesel for around town anyway if I'm honest. They like a good run.

To start I'd check any problems with the clutch, this is the main expense. Listen for any knocks and bangs from the suspension. Check for warning lights on the dash making sure they all come on the you first switch the ignition on. And then all go off!

Do you use Multiecuscan? If the buyer is ok and I don't see why not, then you can plug in and find out what errors have been logged and also you should be able to check the mileage on the ECU.

Viewed it yesterday.

The driving test proved, the suspension is very tight and drove over loads of different surfaces, and no clonking. Rear wheels were straight so no issues with radius arms.

Only had 1 private owner since Jan 2008. Been serviced at supplying dealer since new, ie always serviced every year despite the 3 - 4k miles done. Just serviced.

No dents / scratches. 17" wheels mint. All electrics tested. The interior is like black mesh with silver / blue underneath and still smells new.

Clutch travel felt good, no juddering and take off good. Brakes are very strong, better than spongy Stilo's. Suprised only drums on the back for an Eleganza model. Only negative thing I saw was the crusty steel spare wheel on the underside.

Considering I have looked at a few Multipla's of late, this one is by far the best one I have seen.

So I bought it, delivery to me next week.
