Anyone had a similar problem. At around 20,000 revs vibrating noisy/buzzing sound from speedo area on dash. Its really annoying but only happens at these revs. Any ideas or advice would be welcome.

I had.........................

the same sort of noise ages ago, but now it comes and goes, so I just ignore it, mind you mine generally happened between 2000 and 3000 revs, that's some motor you've got in your car!

20,000 revs eh ???

Re: I had.........................

20,000rpm, he must have the new 0.8ltr revver engine! feck i was impressed my engine goes to 7000rpm, not bad for a Fiat. Going three times the rev counter must be fun! :p

I don't get any buzzing from my rev counter at any speed, sure its not a squeeky dash?

Re: I had.........................

I used to get thise from my old Rover, ended up being some sort of giant washer or something thats attached to the bulkhead just at the area the dash is. It had the clutch cable going through it as well. Just needed something to stop it vibrating and it was resolved

is it actually comming from the tacho, or the dash it's self, my guess, that rev range (I assume 2000RPM) may be enough to vibrate some cables or loose parts behind the dash... these things are very hard to pinpoint, and can be quite pervasive in the fixing (esp if the dash has to be removed). My immediate guess would be the wiring loom that holds the cables that go to the centre console (heater etc...) and instrument pannell. If you have an after market radio, and needed to buy a fitting kit, and wiring loom, the qires are probably loose, and could contribute to this...

I forgot to mention, I thought it was from the dash itself in the rover, was quite suprised when it was found to be a mettal washer thing on the bulkhead

I suggest that you check the side vent cover on the drivers side. You have to open the door in order to see a plastic cover right next to the side window vent. Hold it down with your hand and rev the engine up to the resonating frequency and see if it still vibrates.
If it still occurrs just unscrew the cover and fiddle about.

I had this in my 3 door jtd. Took it to the dealers who said it was the air duct which feeds the vents in the centre of the dash rattling. Anyway, they "fixed" it which lasted for about a week!!! I've noticed that if I have the heat on for a bit it stops, maybe the duct expanding slightly as it heats up?????

Cheers
