"Rennet, a chemical sourced from calves' stomachs, is used in the production of whey.

It will now also be found in Bounty, Minstrels and Milky Way products, and the ice cream versions of all Masterfoods' bars.

"If the customer is an extremely strict vegetarian, then we are sorry the products are no longer suitable, but a less strict vegetarian should enjoy our chocolate," said Paul Goalby, corporate affairs manager for Masterfoods."

Dunno who they is trying to kid. Even I know Vegetarians don't eats cow stomachs.

I remember a few years back when they were talking about them not being allowed to call it chocolate because it used vegetable fat. Something to do with the E.U and the Sun blowing stuff out of proportion as usual.

Sure they said they wanted it to be called Vegelate.

i'm sure if you wanted to, you could find chemicals in all sorts of foods that were animal derived.

i'll keep eating them, and hope it adds to the flavour - if you've chosen to be veggie, then sucks to be you - no more mars chocolate. :p

I don't understand why they are doing it? whats wrong with the way the chocolate is made now?? must be too pricey for them!

if you've chosen to be veggie, then sucks to be you

you make your own decisions in life, so you cant complain if those decisions mean you cant eat something.

as long as manufacturers make it clear when their products contain animal derivitives there is no problem. realistically so few people are vegetarian that it isnt even a consideration for almost all manufacturers.

LEA has to go somewhere.....

I'm a veggie and have been for years. As far as I'm concerned I'll eat what I want and other people can eat what they want. If arc wants to eat ground down bones, intestines, eyeballs and so on then that is his perogative. I used to enjoy Mars Bars and Maltesers but I can't say it'll be a great hardship not eating them. There are plenty of alternatives.
