So I recently had a new hub fitted to the Vectra. All was well until it developed the world's most irritating squeal from that wheel.

I went to take the wheel off to investigate only to find that the dweeb at the garage has grossly overtightened the locking nut. So I put all my weight into it (admittedly that's not very much) and all I managed to do was break the fookin' key:bang:

So the problem is I need a replacement key but it's an aftermarket set and I have no idea where it came from. I can't even complain about the problem to the mechanic because he's away for a few weeks.

God only knows what's causing the squeal from the front wheel, but it's really doing my swede in now:bang:

Someone suggested i try this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Locking-Wheel-Nut-Remover-2pc_W0QQitemZ280389685716QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item41488711d4&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
any good?

The tools in your eBay link sometimes work but not if your locking nut/bolt has a revolving shroud round the outside of it.

If you're a member of the AA, they carry various locking wheel nut remover tools.

Cheers Dave.

These particular ones don't have a revolving shroud. Might give them a try.

The only thing that concerns me is the fact that they are just SOOOO tight. I've never known anything like it. Do you reckon these tools would be up to the job?

The tool won't break, it's just a socket with a left hand thread inside it. The weak link will be the bar you use to turn it. If they're that tight, don't use a knuckle bar.

There are several different sizes of this type of wheel nut remover. I have a set of 4 different and they still don't fit some common car wheel nuts/bolts. It's possible that the 2 in the eBay listing won't fit yours.

Dave.
